Q: Can I have a copy of my ProBoards database so I can convert it to some other service? I want to keep all my posts/members/etc.
A: This is not possible. ProBoards is setup to use a proprietary database format and transferring it is not possible. While we do make backups of your boards, we can not provide the end user with this information as it is intended for use by ProBoards staff to restore forums to a previous state, and not to transfer to another service.
Q: Can I run the ProBoards software on my own server/hosting company?
A: No, ProBoards is written to be used on specific servers with specific software installed in specific places. It would not be possible for you to run our software on your server. Also, ProBoards is designed to run as a remotely hosted forum system. It is not designed to run a single board at a time. The forum and sub-domain creation processes are all integrated into the ProBoards software, and can not be separated. All of the ProBoards software is proprietary.
Q: Do you plan on releasing the ProBoards source code?
A: Not at this time. ProBoards is intended to be run as a remotely hosted message board system.
I login fine, but when I click a link it logs me out!

This will enable third party cookies:
Click on tools on the menubar on your browserClick on Internet Options on the drop menuOn the window that pops up, click on the security tabClick on the custom buttonOn the little window that pops up, scroll down to where it says cookies, and make sure the radio button is in the enabled positionClick save
In Firefox:
tools >> options >> privacy >>
look for the 'cookies' section. Make sure it has 'accept all' ticked, and then click on 'exceptions' and make sure your proboard url isn't in there.
Hint from Ryan If the above didn't work try selecting "forever" when you attempt to log in.
I don't know my username.
If you are the administrator of your board, your username is "admin"
We will offer the position of moderator to certain individuals who come and give quality support to the people who come to these forums. Very few people are mods here, do not feel bad if you are not chosen to be a mod. Please do not post asking to be a mod - we will contact you if we believe you have what it takes.
Coloring your text some of you know how to click on the dropdown for colors [color=Red]Red[/color] But you can also use hex colors like this. [color=FF0000]Red[/color]
the HTML version is <font color="FF0000">RED</font>
Using Font
This is probably the most basic HTML for changing the way text appears in things like the 'forum info box' and other simailar added tables, as well as just addding it in headers without a table.
notice the way the bold and underline tags have been 'nested' you can remove what you don't need, for example, just color and bold <font color="000000"><b>TEXT</b></font>
Centering use this to surround just about anything [center]CONTENT TO CENTER[/center]
<center>CONTENT TO CENTER</center>
Moving content
[move]CONTENT TO MOVE[/move]
<marquee>CONTENT TO MOVE</marquee>
with direction and speed <marquee direction="up" scrollamount="2" height="120">CONTENT TO MOVE</marquee>
ths one will stop when your mouse hovers <marquee direction="up" scrollamount="1" "height=120" onmouseover=this.stop() onmouseout=this.start()>CONTENT TO MOVE</marquee>
you might want to replace "height=120" with width="500" if you change scroll to left or right. valid directions. left, right, up, or down. scrollamount is the speed.

What is the 'Too Many Connections' i keep getting ?
For those who experience the Too Many Connections error page.
Too Many Connections, also known as TMC, is caused when a server becomes a little overloaded. It's nothing bad; just the server trying to protect itself against a crash. When this happens, please do not keep refreshing your page, as this adds additional stress to the server, and forces the TMC page to keep displaying.
If you can manage to get to your site, or have contacts for your members, you can let them know about the TMC, and warn them not to refresh all the time. In this way, you can do your own little bit to bring the server back to normal.
Should TMC be experienced for 2-3 days consistantly, please post in the Support board. ProBoards admins will then monitor the situation, and if overload is deemed the cause, they will "load balance", shifting forums from one server to another to bring the TMC under control.
Please note, demanding a fix will do nothing. Circumstances must get to a certain point before it will be looked at.
Thanks to Captain Niobe

XHTML Compliance
Many will know of HTML, but what about XHTML ?
Proboards try their best to keep up with all browser languages, so there are a few differences to note when customising your board. The basics are that 'Any unclosed tags are given a ' / ' to close it'. one example is the <br> which is now written as <br />, and yes, there is supposed to be a space before the /. another is <hr />
The other thing to note is that ALL tags are supposed to be in lower case.
Image <img src="URL OF IMAGE" alt="" /> the alt at the end is so that 'text readers' for the blind can recognise an image, you can also add some text into that <img src="URL OF IMAGE" alt="photo of me" />, a description then shows when you hover the image.
EDIT: to satisfy users of other browsers (firefox, safari, opera), the inclusion of the 'title' attribute should also be added to the image tag, but isn't mandatory according to w3c
<img src="URL OF IMAGE" alt="photo of me" title="photo of me" />

Transferring ownership (advice)
The main admin will have to give you the admin account password, the admin account can be used just for those special powers if the new admin wants to keep their own profile/posts etc.
If contacting the main admin is impossible for one reason or another, the only advice we can give is that you register for a new board, and make the old one into an archive if you want to retain the old posts etc.
Making a board into an archive is done by disabling posting in each board, (assumimg someone has the power to do this).
Then on the old board, add a message so that members know the reason for moving, and that the board is 'read only', also add a link so the members can follow, they will have to register for the new board, you cannot force them by registering for them.
On the new board, include a link back to the old board.
The 'Official' way to transfer ownership In cases where the admin decides to hand over ownership, this can be done officially by following these instructions. Tha admin will have to post in support, the account they use must use the email of the admin account, and state that they wish to transfer ownership to another member, that member must be named, The named member must then reply that they accept the transfer, again the members account should use the same email account as what they use at the board in question.

If you are the main admin of the board, please make a post in Support stating the fact. Could you also send yourself a PM stating clearly what date you want it changed to, it is best to write the month instead of numbering (26 September 09 for example).
If you are a newish member of any board, it's best that you arrange with a staff member on that board who has power to modify profiles. The staff member should note your profile details (postcount, karma, and info for addons like money). You would then delete your profile and re-register using the exact same username. The staff member can then modify your profile to add the postcounts etc. Please note that you will lose any PM's (you can use the backup before deleting), and your registration date will be different.
If you are a longstanding member on a board (over a year), please post in support, the support admin will decide if he will change it or if you need to follow the deletion method above.
