Forum URL: www.tunesandspoons1.proboards.com/index.cgiHi Ricky and PBS Admins! We added the "Like Option" to our forum months ago as other Proboards forums have done and were very pleased with it! The "Like Option" of course is in the form of a tiny "thumbs up" image at the bottom of a post and if a member likes that post he/she can click the thumbs up image and all the members on the forum can see that that member likes, approves of and or supports the post.
The "Like Option" is of course invisible to non member guests visiting our forum!
Lately the "Like" acknowledgments disappear quickly after they are made and for the first time I can for instance "Like" my own posts too, which was impossible earlier when the "Like Option" functioned properly.
Is it possible to repair the "Like Option"? We hope to keep it on our forum!
Thanks so much! Your help in the past on other problems on our forum is also greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, it's being quite problematic at present. Seems there's a problem with the host site. Perhaps best removing it for now. *You can pop over to the code support board and see if there's any news. Occasionally, the code's maker will reply there. It's doubtful that he'll allow another coder to modify it (should the issue not be host related) Alternatively, you can try pming him: support.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=chickenturkeybaconAlso, keep in mind that v5 will have a like/dislike system in-built. So, might want to wait for that. No release date as yet.

Furthermore, admins from other free forums asked me some time ago (on my ProBoards forum) to give them the code, and I explained to them that it is working only for ProBoards. This code is really an asset for ProBoards. My forum members are really upset right now because this code is not working anymore.[/b] Because of sites like youtube and facebook, the like button has become almost a necessity. My humble suggestion for ProBoards admins is to make a new similar code and include it in the Code Index (because Wonder's code I see it was removed from there): support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=codedatabase&action=display&thread=70177I'm a Beta Tester but I'm not so much interested in the future V5, because I prefer to live in the present... Maybe our grandchildren will get to use the final version of ProBoards V5...

I'm not really sure where I found it but I have a like/ dislike buttons feature on my forum which is working fine :S. It seems to be working on some forums but not on others. It's probably the same code, although I'm not sure. Would you be able to pm me your code, if possible? I'll try it out on my forum. Thanks!

I'm not really sure where I found it but I have a like/ dislike buttons feature on my forum which is working fine :S. You can go to your Global Header / Footer and see who made yours... From what I know, Wonder was the first who made this code... Here it is what is written in the beginning of my code: /* Facebook Style Like/Dislike System v1.2 Copyright 12-08-2009 ~Wonder May not be reposted anywhere Place in Global Footer */

This is just a hunch but I believe the problems with this code coincides with the recent changes made by Proboards, specifically the pb_forum variable which usually contains the sub-domain used for that forum has been blank at least for a few days (don't know exactly when it went blank but it trashed 2 of my GM codes). The like/dislike code uses the value contained within this variable to associate saved data with a forum but since all forums now have a pb_forum set to an empty string there would be a problem.
I don't have the code installed on a forum but if you add a small helper code to your global header which sets a value for pb_forum I suspect the code would once again function as before
<script type="text/javascript"> var pb_forum = "your_subdomain_name_here"; </script>
The red is where you edit and add your own subdomain, for example if my url was http://www.tunesandspoons1.proboards.com/index.cgi
then I would edit the red in that line to read var pb_forum = "tunesandspoons1"

The amazing thing is that it worked even in the initial form (" your_subdomain_name_here"), because the first time I used it I forgot to put my subdomain name. And it is not a coincidence, because if I remove the code, the like button doesn't work anymore. THANK YOU ! _____________________________________________________ I also want to say that I'm the biggest fan of your "Any Video in Post - Eton Bones" code... I use it daily to post videos from many different sites, including videos from facebook and even vk.com From AVIP I only use the Embed Code option. May I remove the rest of options form the code (Generic SWF Player, Generic FLV Player, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, etc.) ? I want to reduce the code size in my global header / footer, in order for the forum to load faster. I'm waiting for your answer. Thank you.

What exactly does that code do? It simply re-defines a variable that used to be set in older version of ProBoards software, but no longer exists. The like code needs it to know the URL of your forum. - RedBassett

Mine never seemed to stop working, it seemed to be user related rather than forum related which is odd as on another forum people were saying that it didn't work although it worked for me but I added this code anyway in case other members on my forum are having the problem.

From AVIP I only use the Embed Code option. May I remove the rest of options form the code (Generic SWF Player, Generic FLV Player, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, etc.) ? I want to reduce the code size in my global header / footer, in order for the forum to load faster. I'm waiting for your answer. Thank you. One of the reasons that code was abandoned was when Proboards announced a very similar feature would be included in V5 (unfortunately that was back in 2008!). You can edit that code to remove those non-flash plugins if you wish. Your stated reason however suggests you would benefit much more from remotely hosting your codes. This is not the 1990's where everyone was on a 1400 baud or 56K connection where byte pruning would produce a demonstrably noticeable difference. Proboards has to include a no-cache directive in order to force your browser to grab a new copy on every load (user's online, new PMs, etc. would not work otherwise) and this also affect any codes found in headers/footers. By remotely hosting the codes on a server that doesn't forbid caching your browser can then cache them and bypass that download time.
