Forum URL: lunaranubis.proboards86.com/ Example URL: lunaranubis.proboards86.com/ Description: Someone has been trying to post on my forum, but they can't. They pressed the "Add Quote" button once for the quoting multiple posts thing and now every time they go to PMs or threads it freezes. I don't want to delete this code because it works for everyone else, but I also want them to be able to use my forum. They have IE 6.0, I believe. They are the only person I know of with the problem. I told them to delete their cookies and also I tried to delete the quote for them, but it's not working, what do I do? Experienced By: Some of my members Code URL: support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=codedatabase&action=display&n=1&thread=70698 Web Browser: Internet Explorer The code only uses cookies if session storage is unavailable and since IE6 has session storage the data for the quotes would be saved under C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\UserData (have them replace <username> with the actual username they have in windows). That folder will contain four randomly named sub-folders just like the internet cache folder. Have them click each folder looking for a file containing lunaranabis in the name. If they delete that file then the quotes for lunaranabis will also be deleted. P.S. If possible I would like them to first open the file in a text editor and PM me the contents or post it here. It would hep me diagnose what particular quote was causing the trouble and modify the code to be aware of that in th future. If not possible then I understand. Alternatively they can use the admittedly easier method of typing javascript:void(clearStorage()) in the browser's address bar when the main page finishes loading but that wouldn't get me the info I want ;D Note: the casing (capitalizations) for the javascript command must be exactly as typed above and if the command is successful they won't get any audio or visual indication. The only way to see if it worked is to display a thread or edit a post and look for the quotes table at the bottom of the page, if missing then quotes were deleted.

Here's what the file said:
<ROOTSTUB Quotes="
<FONT size=2>Condoms work if they're new. But if you don't want to, flat out tell him. If you aren't ready, then you don't have to, and that's that. I'd personally say wait a few more years, but some people are ready younger.<BR><BR>Oh, and welcome to the boards, by the way X3 </FONT>
" />
EDIT: ITS WORKED! ITS WORKED!!! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same problem, but I can't find the folder you said to look for. The computer runs on Vista. Can you help?

I don't have vista so I really have no way to see if vista moved that folder or renamed it therefore I suggest you use the alternate method given in the post above:
The folder method is only for internet explorer, all other browsers should use the alternate (javascript) method which will also work on internet explorer.

For some that one didn't work either, but I found a way to fix the problem. I'm posting it here in case anyone else has Vista and needs help with this problem.
Go to the START menu and click on CONTROL PANEL. Once there click on NETWORK AND INTERNET and from there click on the DELETE BROWSING HISTORY AND COOKIES link. Then delete all your cookies and it's good as new.

That's interesting ...
It's true the code supports cookies as a medium of storage since it can falls back to using cookies if global storage is unavailable, but that is only a last resort. A quick google search confirms that IE still supports global storage on the vista platform.
I'll have to investigate further whether it is contingent on some new-fangled security setting on that platform or (with some helpful info from you) a bad or crippled install of the code (such as setting the forcecookie variable to true).
As noted in the code's description cookie usage is less than desirable since it severely limits the amount of data that can be stored.
