My forum is here: conflictingrivals.proboards.com/index.cgiBasically, I've received some complaints from members saying they are unable to post in the in character threads. One member in particular is using the browser Safari, and in one of the boards 'Straight Bit' ( here) you need to post 500 words to get it to post. I am aware I am using the code: Minimum Words/Characters when Posting by Chris, but the minimum should be 250 words, not 500. I've checked the code, and everything seems to be fine, so I'm wondering what's wrong I'm using Firefox, and everything seems to be fine for me. Thanks in advance!

Your global footer shows Eton's word count code.. and it is set to 0 to disable it. Do you have Chris's code in a board footer?

Yeah, I just deleted that code as I don't need it. I have Chris's code in the 'in character' footers, such as in Straight Bit (:

It's a sub-board in the city board.

Just jumping in here for a sec... Picasso, you are missing an ending apostrophe in your forum resize code. (just under Chris's word count code)
</script><script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var fWidth = '850';
Backing out now, SubDevo

I missed the part about it not working in Safari. I just checked in FF and made a test post. it activated the button at 250 words.
I dont have safari installed (and likely never will) in order to check what the issue is, but I suspect safari doesnt like the regexp for some reason.

Thanks Sub!
Also, Worm, I downloaded Safari but the problem still only seems to be on this person's browser (his user is rabidmaggot93).
He tried downloading FF, and it still doesn't work, so I can't think what the problem could be.

Could you link to where you got that code please, this line of the code concerns mebreakTheButton(m.form, "");
Traditionally DISABLED set on a tag required no value (called a bareword attribute), just its existence alone was enough to disable that element. XHTML however views bareword attributes as illegal and instead require a value thus leading to markups such as disabled="disabled". The value assigned is meaningless and only serves to make the markup xhtml compliant.
That line is obviously meant to enable a disabled button but the browser could interpret that two ways. If it's a DOM interpretation then it is expecting a boolean and an empty string still evaluates to a string object thus making it TRUE. If it is a document content interpretation then setting the value to an empty string on a bareword attribute doesn't necessarily toggle the attribute since, if you remember, the value is meaningless.
Try changing that line tobreakTheButton(m.form, false);
Technically the code should use removeAttribute to be safe but I'm sure Chris will address that if he sees the need.
The puzzle is you say the form eventually enables at 500 words for that user which would not jive with the problem as I am seeing it since it should never enable, something else could be at play and since I don't own a mac this might have to be diagnosed by a mac user (assuming of course the user is indeed a mac user)

I got the code here: forum.sz-ex.com/index.cgi?board=codes&action=display&thread=1702I tried changing the line to breakTheButton(m.form, false); But it still doesn't seem to work. I asked the user who cannot use it, and they use a mac at school, and a normal computer at home. The person cannot post with 500 words anymore - in fact, they cannot post anything. Is there any other code that I could somehow use which is more reliable and will do the same job (but can be used on individual footers, not the global)? Thanks!

Changing that line should have worked since it removed the ambiguities I previously mentioned. Is this user having problem both on work (mac) and home (pc) ? Can you have them confirm which or both and also reconfirm that they are still unable to post with the modified line in-place.
Both word counting codes you had can be used in either global or board footer and both are considered fairly reliable, the difference between them is the criteria they use to determine what is a word. For example, one will count "Jacoby&Meyers" as two words while the other will see it as three. This can lead to confusion if you have both installed as you previously did.

I changed the line but it still doesn't seem to work with the member - it doesn't work on both their mac and pc.
I tried putting the Eton's word count into another sub-board (Hexasol Secondary School). They were able to post - but only after one letter. The code works for me when I type 250 words, but for them the code just doesn't seem to work.
Thanks!

Is it possible you could have that particular user come to this topic and answer a few questions? At this point it appears that this is a problem unique on their end. The fact that this happens on both mac and pc rules out some peculiar behavior on a particular platform and instead shifts the search to a commonality between the two(work and home) such as shared network or shared security.
