Story A 40 year old high school track coach married a 16 year old student that he taught in track . Her parents signed the consent forms to allow the marriage , they felt they had no choice , they had a restraining order against the coach but their daughter withdrew until they gave in . Do you think the coach was in the right here ? Would you sign the consent for marriage ?

I would think that a 16 year old girl would have been rather... turned off at the thought of marrying a 40 year old man. And I don't think that the marriage will be successful, as there is too big of an age difference. He should be ashamed of himself and he should know better.

Who can say what age is right to allow marriage and the like? I think it is personally revolting and I would let my daugther be upset, but I cannot fault the parent's for letting her make her own mistakes.

Imagine the teasing she will get now that she has a 40 year old husband. If its true love whatever but I can see a thread being made in a few months or years about the divorce b/c that is just a huge age gap and a lot of problems are going to probably come up.

People on this planet frequently make choices that I would disagree with, or call absurd. This is one of those absurd cases in my opinion, but only because I can't think of doing the same thing myself. If it's what they both want, then I can't really see myself fussing over it. Strange things happen.

Oooo... I'm not too sure! I mean, it's wrong for a 15yr old to date a 17yr old for instance, what makes it ANYYYY bit more different for a 16yr old to date/MARRY a 40yr old!? I so wouldn't have signed those forms. For her to marry him, they must've had a sexual relationship for a couple of years prior? Making him a pedo, if she was bellow the legal age of sexual intercourse. She's so young, she probably doesn't understand the meaning of love properly, she has her whole life ahead of her. Or did have at one point. ~Danny

Don't knock just how she feels about the man. While I agree that she is underage. I to met a man shortly after my 18th birthday that was much older. Not quite as old as this coach but was close to it. I am happy to say we have been married happily 20 years this Oct. Would I go back and change the outcome? Not in a million years.

If I were the girl, my parents should take me to a psych ward. But I agree with HoudiniDerek, the parents should not be at fault. We all learned to walk by falling, didn't we? Also, look at Marilyn Manson and Rachel Evan Wood. *gags*

I think it was very inappropriate for the parents to sign the waiver or whatever. Maybe if she were on the verge of turning 18, then maybe....She still has 2 years of high school left.

If I go on emotional opinion, I think that they shouldn't have, but if I think this out logically, then my post above still stands.

I think that's pretty disgusting to hear about. Let's think about it - she has two years of high school left. Also, she either just got her license, or hasn't even gotten it yet! She can barely drive! At sixteen years old, you are still growing up, still morphing into an adult.
A fourty year old teacher marrying a sixteen year old student is disturbing.

She began to get calls from him at 14 ( he denied a sexual involvement at that time ) but he was taking her back and forth to school and calling her at 2 am . The man qualifies as a pedophile . Once this girl grows up I wonder if he will still be interested .
