One thing to keep in mind while on PBS is that while everyone here claims to be over 13, there are many who are simply lying. Their maturity reflects that. I've learned to take anything I read on this board with a grain of salt. Well there are those who haven't matured yet. For most guys it would be hard to tell their age because of the way they act. Taking defense in what we say or do is only natural. How we do it determines our maturity yes, but also how we were raised. I for one don't get mad easily. I won't hit unless I've been hit. I won't cuss, unless the person is sitting there screaming their head off cussing. I take critisism well. I don't insult unless they've pushed me over the edge. I deal with pressure well. But theres also a downside to my tolerance. I have no conscience. Not because I'm a bad person, and I'm not, I just don't. I could kill a innocent man for no reason at all and never feel regret...

Fair enough, but the way things are going in England with education at present, what with bullying, class disruption, under funding, there has been a rise in people self teaching their kids at home, i noticed a news item on this last year, cant remember if it was the national news or London. The problem with that is that education has to end at some point. If those same homeschooled kids then go to college or university, they're going to find the same people there who they didn't go to school with.

The thing that gets me most, is when someone is flat out wrong, and will not shut up long enough to hear a different point of view because they don't even want to admit that there is a slight chance they are wrong. They could think the sky is green, yet if you tell them to look up, that it is blue, they refuse to because they know it is green. I agree 100%

The problem with that is that education has to end at some point. If those same homeschooled kids then go to college or university, they're going to find the same people there who they didn't go to school with. If a child is taught from a young age to accept any and all cultures then that should never be a problem. Regardless of how many cultures the child was introduced to during schooling, if they understand diversity and other cultures in a general sense, then going to a university should be no problem. Intolerance does not come about naturally. It's something that is passed on by older generations. So, if the generation that is coming into play right now can learn from past mistakes, then we should be on the road to a more tolerant society. If new parents can begin teaching their children the right information, that diversity is something to be welcomed, then the children will have a far greater chance at becoming tolerant. Repeat over a couple generations and racism may be a thing of the past. Idealistic, I know, but it's possible.

there is no evidence to suggest home schooled kids would be more intolerant than tolerant is what i am really saying. Nor to suggest the opposite, which was the point I've been making all along... However, as Professor Arai (Arizona State University) states, "homeschooling parents and children must recognize that they are not just keeping their kids at home, and that they are not just making a statement about parental rights in education. Rather, they are also helping to define and shape what it means to be a citizen of their country. They must be prepared to think in these broader terms, and to recognize that what they are doing has some good elements and some bad elements, just as citizenship education in schools has strengths and weaknesses. In other words, homeschooling is not just about where kids will learn their ABCs, it affects the very definition of what it means to be a member of a society."

Fair enough, but i was merely offering 'the other side of the coin'. As for professors, you will get some that say home schooling is bad & some that will be in favour of it.
