It is hardly an original idea. It is a remake. It is a different take on the idea however. But it is still a remake. It is not a remake. It is another director's interpretation of a book. I'm curious what he was smoking while he wrote this 'interpretation' of the book. So far the previews are nothing similar to what I remember from the book (not to mention the willy wonka theme song is kind of strange).

Acually, the move name is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. There is an old one named Charlie and the Chocolate factory. The old one I believe is much better, besides a few spots were you have long boring songs that is kinda depressing.

The original movie was Willy Wonka The new movie is Charlie it's caused confusion because most people didn't know there was a book by Roald Dahl and the names of the movies aren't the same (and most people, myself included, thought it was another hollywood remake )

so what don't people like about it? I dunno, the previews for it look really creepy and it just seems to weird for my taste. It's supposed to be creepy. And that's the reason I'm going to go see it. Plus, Johnny Depp is a good actor at that kind of stuff.

You cant be gene wilder He Made the movie, and the kid who played charlie in the movie , now he was pretty good at acting .I dont think you will find one even close to him in talent. To bad he didnt do alot after that movie .The seventies version of it rocked .I dont think they can top it, even with all the special effects in the world.

It's not special effects that is going to make this movie stand out so much from the original. It is the direction, and feel in which they are taking the story. This movie isn't going to have the same atmosphere as the original, and that isn't going to have anything to do with the special effects. As for a child actor being better then Charlie, Dakota Fanning. However, that's irrelevant I guess as she isn't in this movie. In my opinion Johnny Depp is also 10 times the actor that Gene Wilder was. None of that was meant to take anything away from the original. I grew up loving that movie, and still think is a good movie, but this new one shouldn't even be compared to the original. It is like Batman (1989) and Batman begins, the two movies have nothing to do with each other and are as different as night and day on purpose.

I will say this on a scale of 1-10 johnny depp is a 7 .. he is very good at certain roles, not so good at others .Gene Wilder how ever is an 9 out of 10, they do not come much better for the roles that the man plays,or any roles for that matter.I can count on one hand the better actors then gene wilder .. and 4 of them have past away .Johnny depp is not the fifth sorry depp is decent, Wilder is better

It depends on what we as individuals like. Personally, I like my art a little dark, strange, weird, and unusual. Tim Burton is the master of that, and Johnny Depp plays that well (but is not limited to playing that type of role [Secret Window, Fear and Loathing, Gilbert Grape, Blow, ect]). Gene Wilder's talents ended about where Richard Prior's did. I'm not saying either actor is bad, but they have done very little in their careers that have interested me, as where Depp seems to choose projects based on what I want to see. Like I said, it is all based on opinion on what we as individuals like. You and I are both Star Trek fans, and there is a good chance two different aspects of the franchise attracted us to it to begin with, yet we still agree Star Trek is a great series. ( Depp's still better )
