How to punnish this trouble maker?

If it was an accident, then do nothing. If it was indeed malicious, then ban them.

I agree, he didn't do much to deserve a ban (and a bashing of karma, post, sig) It is your forum though, and technicaly you can do anything (within TOS) to your members.

I'd delete the post, PM him a warning and a link to yur rules. Then watch him. If he does it again, I'd disable his account for three days. Make sure thats in the Rules or you don't have a leg to stand on.
