Also another things is for example : Take RPG forums , if there are 4,000 or 500,000 out there, and you have one too,but yours has say everything those others have ,and 5 to 10 things that the others do not.Making it stand out is always good

Well, what in your eyes makes a successful forum? 1. Good content 2. Good graphics 3. Good color scheme 4. Good codes 5. Good and friendly management and members 6. High activity Basically what I would say, and like Tommy a good commited admin. Also, an interesting topic to many. Like don't just make a Metal forum, make a rock forum. Even more general, a music forum.

1. Good administration. I hate when you look at a forums Staff and they have 10 staff members for 30 members. Its silly. The moderators have to be chosen for thier ability to moderate, not thier friendships with other staff. We have about 120 members and 3 admins, 2 Global Mods, and 3 Board Moderators. 2 of the Board Moderators are on probation to see if they'll make good Global Moderators.
2. Rules to keep things from going in a handbasket.
3. Places of varying interest for the members to post in.
4. Good activity and new memebrs. In order to stay srong, you need members who like your forum, and refer thier friends to it. That way the forum grows and changes for the better and doesn't get old and stale.
Just my opinions. I've only been adminning for a year.

A successful forum has:
1. An admin who believes in quality over quantity. So what if you have 3,000 members. Do they post often? I'm very happy with my membership of less than 50 because just about all of them have remained active since they signed up.
2. Something unique about it. How many Harry Potter sites are there that have the exact same training rooms, classrooms, etc. Come up with something new.
3. An admin who knows how to handle problems.
4. A comfortable place to visit. No hoops to jump through. Rules are fine, but don't make so many that it scares people away.
