I am for the death penalty ONLY for the most egregious acts, where the guilt of the person is absolutely certain. By egregious acts, I am talking about torture-murder, serial murder, rape murder, and molestation murder of a child.
We're all handed the death sentence at birth and live our lives in it's shadow.

I don't think all murders where be sentenced to death, but ones who have no regret in what they do and do them so awful, I see no point for them to live now.

I happen to agree with rich (one of those rare occasions ) in the fact that the guilt must be absoulutly certain, but I would extend it to certain other crimes but mostly just murder.

But thats they thing you can never be 100 percent certain that someone did it,or did not do it,but if you have say 10 witnesses, finger prints of them being there.Loads of other kinds of evidence. Then he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.Thats the best we can get.

I don't agree with it at all, under any circumstances.

well yeah i agree with you to an extent on that part, but what kind of message are we putting out there that the ultimate punishment for murder: is to be murdered. you see where i am going with this? i agree that they should not be given a second chance, but there are many many punishments out there that are far worse than death itself. mind you, i hate scott peterson for what he did to his wife and child (she was 8 mos pregnant and since the child was at a stage of development, where he could have survived outside of the womb, the was the second count of man-slaughter) but i do not agree with the death sentence. i believe that he should have been released to a cell of inmates doing a life sentence and happen to have kids of their own... they would have beat his butt every day and night until he died, or committed suicide. i think that the death penalty is nothing short of hypocritical because we are taking people convicted of murder, and then murdering them. oh and as if i didnt hate him enough already... i just read the testimony.. he deserves to burn in hell.

I support the death penalty, if someone has caused a family so much pain by killing a part of it. Why should that family have to deal with knowing that the murderer could be out again in like 20 years, possibly to kill again? However you do have to be 100% sure that the guy is guilty, and also the pained family also has a life sentence already no matter what you do.
What a tough subject.

I am not a fan of Capital Punishment. Only part I agree with is the part where you spend life in Prison. I don't see how if someone kills somebody, how it's even right to kill someone else. Sure, you're taking a loved one away from a family, but you're taking another loved one from a family by legal execution. The system needs a little bit more work. I cannot remember where I got this information, therefore, I cannot cite it. I did have it on my end of year paper. Since about 1970, there have been about 700 wrongly-executed inmates. Later, they found through more DNA tests that it was a mistake. Also, in Utah, they just abolished the death penalty where inmates were executed by a firing squad. How humane is that?
Let them sit in a cage for their crimes, but don't execute and take another loved one away from a family.

i really don't think capital punishment is justified, at least in my opinion. i understand that they killed somebody, but ur not any better of a person if u kill them right back. just leave them sit in jail for the rest of their lives to think about what they did so they can learn their lesson, though not all of them do. ur just as bad as they are if u kill them.
