Some of you may have read about the Asus 7800 GT Dual GPU video cards. Two of them in SLI would provide a Quad GPU SLI configuration with 1GB of video memory, producing unrealistic (and sort of unstable) gaming power. The card is finally out: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121213Now, if you thought that is awesome, take a look at this: www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=195Seems to be 2x 7800 GTX's 512 MB pasted together, and allowing two of these to run in SLI would produce unprecedented video power. 2GB of video memory (which is more video memory than most people have RAM!), 96 pixel pipelines, and 5.2 Teraflops of total computing power.

I'll be getting everything up to date again when I get a new computer next year.
As for now, I have had a 6800 Ultra for the past year and have played all of the most graphic-intense games out there with settings at max and nothing has even started to slow it down yet. It's a pretty damn amazing card, and the best buy for the price now.
I wonder what will be out by the time I plan on getting another computer. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be real cool.

My FX 5200 pwns your 6800 Ultra ;D Woah... that must suck. Before my current computer, I had a 5200 too; it was fine for everything except gaming. It was better than the ATI 9200; my bro had that and it bugged out and could not take some games. The problem with computers is that before you know it, theres something better replacing it. A few weeks after I got my computer, it was outdated, but I'm sure that is something that will always happen.

That's the problem. The FX 5200 was decent when I first bought it, about two years ago, but now it's one of the worst cards available. At least it does offer decent power since it's AGP 8x.
I can play Unreal Tournament 2004 perfectly without any lag at 1280x1024 at normal detail in both Linux and Windows. Ironically, I can play Quake 4 "fine" at 640x480 at low on Windows, but at 800x600 in Linux, even with all the KDE eye candy on.
A new computer is something that I'm looking forward to as a birthday gift in May. I'm getting now less than a 7800GT, possibly GTX if the price drops enough by then.

With the computer beginning to loose its edge graphics wise to the console, are cards like this really needed?

With the computer beginning to loose its edge graphics wise to the console, are cards like this really needed? Yes. And no, Computer graphics will always be better, because new cards come out and are much better then consoles. PC gaming is much more demanding, and the games have better graphics then console games. Half-Life 2, will look awful on Xbox, but looks amazing on PC.

right but with Next Gen consoles like the 360 and PS3 (we all know the revolution is going to flop ) won't that have an impact being as they are going to be cheaper than most high end computers, but are beggining to gain the edge over the average gaming computer at this point, I mean in the next generation of Game console (after the 360 ect.) where is the computer going to be able to stand, in my opinion it has always been easier to play FPS type games on the Console, and the only truely alluring game on the PC that can't be played easier on the console at this point is an RTS which is by all comparisons less demanding graphically than any other game.

Wow that 5.2 Tflop graphic card mod is 2600x faster then my whole computer. Pretty soon we'll have 15Tflop computers without having to have an airplane bunker to house the components like that super fast computer in China lol

By the time most next gen consoles arrive, there will be 10+ new graphics cards PER COMPANY. The PS3 isn't out yet but there have tons of new video cards released after the PS2, most of which make a joke out of the PS2.

You realize a console is just a 500 dollar computer you hook into your TV,PC's own consoles.
