Can I ask why you would even need 2GB of video memory? There's no games about that would put it to good use and I very much doubt there will be for quite some time because very few people are going to be able to afford a set up like that. You can say it "pwns" Consoles all you like, it may well do in the way of specs, but console users are enjoying smooth and fast game play with excellent graphics for a quarter of the price that the average PC user is spending to get the same results. So who's the real winner? Its what we can do other than graphics that count. I just upped to a 6600GT and it walks all over my brother Xbox for just £88...Ok take away MB and ram etc...but it still walks all over most consuls.

I got a 7800 GTX when it first got released and it's already becoming obsolete. I'll have to buy one/two of those at some point. If for nothing else, for major bragging rights. ;D It's not obsolete and won't be for a long time. It's the third most powerful available card Anything lower than a 6600 is obsolete.

Obsolete was probably too strong a word. I want to know whether anyone has the video of the presentation from CES, I feel like listening to the audiences' reaction.

This reminds me of the new quad core chips coming out next year. SLIing these two four GPU's with that(those?) processor(s), and four gigs of ram would be gaming heaven. That's the power of four gaming pc's in one! Liquid cooling would be necessary, just to keep it relatively stable.

Or are you refering to a 360? People who are buying that setup for gaming are wasting their money, you can run max graphics on any game with the latest standard cards and pay a lot less.

Will Alan buy me some too then? Nah, I don't need them. Useless to waste money this early.

And the fact that after seeing many new consuls graphics they dont even start to compete with some lower end graphics cards, which I know for the overall setup cost a lot more than a consul (Second thoughts a basic setup can be had for a similar price)

Not the games right now -- but in the future, oh yes.

The PC user will experience the better graphics, multi-player game play and AI etc, their also paying a lot more money to experience it over time.

That is true but one also has to consider that Xbox becomes Xbox360 and PS become PS2 and soon to be PS3 and with Xbox360 comes the amazing price of new games.
For me they are almost equal in upgrades+prices.

For me they are almost equal in upgrades+prices.Sorry but I don't think it does equal out, Xbox 360 games have only risen in price by £15 over the original Xbox games, they soon come down in price as well if you shop in the right places. Over the next 3 or 4 years, the average PC user will have spent out in the region of £2000 in new hardware to keep playing the latest games, plus the price of the game which is around £35 for the newest titles. Its all down to preference though, I like to have my mates over and play split screen games rather than play with gobby little kids online and deal with all of the moaning and internet problems at the same time. In terms of fun factor, a console is the winner in my opinion, but in terms of realism, graphics and game play, the PC is probably the stronger, just depends on what you prefer I guess.

Just like you used to pay £50 for games, but we also paid $50. You paid more.

I don't know how or why consoles got into this conversation, but that's not the point.
You don't have to buy the video cards right when they come out. Just wait a while and let the price drop. Getting a powerful video card is also futureproofing. A regular GTX should be sufficient for average gaming even in the coming games. Powerful cards like the ones just being introduced are for heavy gamers who like to run multiple, large monitors to enhance their gaming experience.
