just a note for things such as /whereis
as there are space in the names, you will need to use quotes, such as /whereis "Martyn Dale (martyn)"
Even if it didnt have the username at the end, there would still be a need to use quotes for a lot of people, because of the use of spaces in most peoples display names

Did you misspell Announcement on purpose ?
Anyways.
I've been using Addonchat (Sigmachat) for 3 years now.
If you have any questions regarding the operation of the room feel free to ask.
Just a bit of advise :
In the past, Sigmachat (AddonChat) has been really lousy with thier online support. Hopefully things are a bit better after the integration.
Just to re-iterate :
This will NOT be a ProBoards chatroom.
But an option for YOU to add a forum to your own message board in the near future.
The chat you add, will be exclusive to YOUR board only and totally independent of ProBoards.
Sorry Martyn. It just seemed like a few people thought that there would only be ONE chatroom and all boards had to share it.

Just a bit of advise : In the past, Sigmachat (AddonChat) has been really lousy with thier online support. Hopefully things are a bit better after the integration. I too have been a user of AddonChat (formerly known as SigmaChat) for three years as well and the "online" support didn't really exist until the release of this new V.8.0. Many people went to their forum expecting help from the then SigmaChat staff rather than emailing support as suggested many times. They even have a toll free number (USA) that they could call. The support forum there was primarily set up for owner to owner help. I in these three years have done my best to help where ever I could. The new addonchat now has a support ticket system which I have used and find it very efficient and effective. There is also a knowledge base that many could find help if used. ******************************** Martin, Your right about the use of quotation marks in names with spaces which looks to be all our names. I had forgot about that when we needed a solution to the /fnick problem with names including spaces. You got me blushing now because you pointed that out before me.

I think it works very well. Nicely interlaced and easy to use. Seems stable. I like it. ;D Very smooth also I didn't get any delayed reactions either, makes it a plus in my book

let me ask then to see if i understood the technical jargon description ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) correctly. Basically what this will do is allow us to add a chat to our own boards eventually? am i correct?

Martyn, feel free to smack my wrist harshly if what I am about to say is incorrect. And PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. I am guessing that if this chat format is acceptable with the PB staff that it will be offered for use within your own PB forum. I'm not sure the free/basic version will be an option or not since it would lack the many administrative options. My guess is that you will be able to purchase a plan and integrate it with your forum using a Remote Authentication System (RAS). Our website is now in it's third year of premium service with this chat software.

JAVA tends to screw up computers all on its own; i have the latests version because my university calls for it. Most members wont have JAVA. Maybe an integration of flash and Action Script ?

With flash integration on web pages it does seem somewhat more efficient than java. I've been to may flash chats and I can't say any of them rival the worst java chats I have been to. Both java and flash applications do have some adverse effects with older computers lacking in resources.

Any chat room you get is going to to require the latest software, and use a lot of system resources. Might as well go for it all and get the best with a Java chat.

So, will we be able to set hours that the chatroom is available during? Because in the future I'd like to draw activity at certain hours, as well as be able to have some moderation (I probably wouldn't have a ton of dedicated staff like here ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) )
