In the past all the requests to be allowed to do this kind of thing, relate to working on every page view, or most pageviews, for example getting subboard information. In this case we are talking about not even 10 connections once a week, which is nothing, and no issue So we are allowed to hit PB servers (As long as its not too much)? I asked about this in the support board months ago and said it wasn't allowed under any circumstances Chances are if everyone does it, it won't be allowed again.

Few Questions: Are hourly checks ok? (Just curiosity, don't really need hourly...) Can we post threads from remote servers? (Eg, create a "bot" account, save the cookie information and send this using PHP, with some POST information, to create a thread?) Again, this is curiosity, I don't need to do this

Again, this is curiosity, I don't need to do this I hate being unofficial and giving an answer, but I imagine hourly checks are a bit much, and would imagine 12 hour/one day checks being a minimum for any script Pat would allow... anything else would see an upsurge in PHP-connection hacks, and someone is bound to create a mod installer hosted on their site with half hourly checks catering to 400+ forums... so 400 hits an hour... it starts mounting up. Posting remotely... I really doubt... other board systems are clamping down on it.

I highly doubt you'd be allowed to post remotely, I know in PBv3 quick reply boxes were disabled, and those weren't even remote pages.
When I say "generates no extra bandwidth" I mean it speaking generally. A few extra requests to the server creates such a low amount of bandwidth usage that it would be negligible, and even if he were to stop requesting the page for his indexer, the bandwidth usage every day wouldn't change a bit.

A few people have mentioned to me the Code Index didn't have all four indexes working (due to the PB change of requesting your gender on login). I've now updated it, so it should all be back working at: proboards.ifcode.com

Hi folks,
Just dropping in again. I've got some free time in the next week or two, and just wondered if anyone could think of any appropriate improvements for the Code Index. At the moment, it just feels a bit static and I want to jazz it up(!) If you've got any ideas on how it can be improved so it's easier to access, has more features that you want etc, or more easily scalable, let me know in this thread and I can get on it. Cheers!

- search by author would be awesome
- order and/or filter results by created/last modified date
- probably not possible with a spider but a list of threads related to the code highlighting bugs that have not been addressed or has been unofficialy addressed in another thread. Alternatively some manual means to enter such information by the user to help other users.

I like it, but it's a shame that JavaScript is required, as mine's disabled by default. I have some codes that aren't in any database, though.
Also, IDK how you store which site the code's on, but it might save space if you removed the server number and just used .proboards.com.
As for how often to do checks, just look at how often the codes are added. You don't need it updated AS SOON AS a code is added. Nothing wrong with once every midnight. Or you could make a code that people could add to the Code Database that automatically notifies you when a code is added.

Thanks Charles, I'll definitely convert it to a non-JS version soon.
Eton: the first two suggestions are great. I'll leave the third one though, I think that information is best kept in the code's thread - so PM the original poster, or a moderator if they're no longer around.

Any suggestions for improvements to the index? I'm hoping to have a play around with it this week.
I think first on board is changing the skin - possibly to match this Support board.

Don't sort them by forum. Tell the forum, but don't sort by it. The searcher isn't going to care what forum it's from when searching for the script. If they had a forum in mind, they would just go there.

Thanks for the feedback. It's sorted that way due to the timeout on the server for executing a php file. If I could optimize the grabbing then it might be possible to do it at cron time, although I'll look at a file merging process after - cheers Charles. Any other improvements? I'd love to make proboards.ifcode.com/ as easy to use as possible for everyone - does anyone think a Proboards Support style skin would be better for it?
