I think they're all great in their own way really. If I had to choose a favorite I would go with the Air Force because I like the jets and stuff. Ironically I fear heights and most likely never would join that branch if I did want to join the army...

Depends on what you as an individual want out of joining the service. Each has their own specialty

Marines, they get swords. (Even if they are only used in ceremonial stuff. ) all branches have ceremonial swords, saying only Marines have them is being pretty closed minded. @ OP. in my opinion, there is no BEST branch in the US Miltiary. I personally like the United States Marine Corps as I am a Young Marine (sorta like JROTC, its a youth program centered on drug demand reduction) and I have been... "brain washed" into believing the USMC is the best out there. Just from observation, that statement is not 100% true. True, USMC boot camp is a few weeks longer than any other branch's and not to mention have the sharpest looking uniforms in IMO, best functioning utility uniforms (I do have my own set of MCCUUs for airsofting ) Other branches have their perks and usefulness. Without the US Army, we wouldn't have the man power our nation needs to defend our interests foreign and domestic. The US Army's infantry is just as skilled as the Marine Corps and is far superior to any other country's military. The National Guard imo, is just part of the Army, but in a sense is its own branch. The Guard provides citizens who have the desire to serve their country, but also serve on the home front via local businesses and domestic jobs. The Guard may not provide the best training or offer the most up to date equipment, but they are essential nonetheless. In aviation, the US Air Force has the be the best in that though the US Navy, US Army, AND US Marine Corps do have their own aviation programs, the US Air Force's technology superiority surpasses any nation on this earth. As for the US Navy, as a friend of mine once said, "Marine Corps -- Without the Navy... You're WALKING!" a funny joke, but quite true, the US Navy provides the USMC with most of its transportation and even devotes a few logistical assets to Marine units such as: Amphibious Assault Ships to launch off of, Corpsmen, traditions, the Academy and other ROTCs and etc. The US Coast Guard... probably one of THE MOST under appreciated branches in our armed forces. If you ever had any doubts about the USCG's skill...watch the movie "The Guardian" with Ashton Kutcher, it shows you just how skilled they could really be. Finally, the United States Marine Corps *cue Marine Hymn* the most motivated branches of our military, steeped in traditions spanning the past 230some years. I love the Marine Corps and I hope to one day become an Officer in it. Now, comparing it to the other branches... Marines: have longer boot camp, get better marksman training (requiring shooting at more distance targets than the US Army), have the meanest sons of *femaledog* Drill Instructors, have the best looking Dress Uniforms, have the BEST functioning Combat Utilities and have a [positive] reputation exceeding that of any other branch. Now, the Marine Corps DOES have its... flaws. NOT ALL MARINES ARE INFANTRY!! Yeah yeah, we all know or have heard teh saying, "All Marines are riflemen first" the fact that every marine does get basic rifle marksman training doesn't mean they are automatically better than the average US Army soldier. I have a friend who is a medic in the US Army (lets call him Doc). He had a desk jockey Marine try to tell him that he [the Marine] was better than doc. Doc just needed to remind [the Marine] that he was a COMBAT MEDIC and the Marine was a desk jockey. Can someone say... you got owned? Now, give this long reply, I'm going to sum up my answer to this poll in one sentence. I cannot vote for the BEST US Military Branch as they are ALL EQUALLY NOTABLE.

My Dad is a retired Marine. I grew up with him always supporting the Marines and I do personally also have my own reasons for supporting them too, my choice is not necessarily based on my Dad. However, I believe each branch has an important role.

It really depends on what you would like to do.
For instance, do you want to be solely on ground operations or air?
For myself, I'd probably choose to be a Marine, because you engage more in raid type operations, which I'd love to be a part of. Also a Marine has fewer less risks than someone who's in the Army.

I never knew that. In the commercials, recruiting videos, etc... I've only ever seen the Marines with swords. Those commercials are about as much as I know about the military because I don't come from a military family AT ALL. >.>
