That sounds like an awesome idea The thought had never actually crossed my mind for anyone to get Harry Potter related tattoos, but the doe idea sounds really nice. You could perhaps work "Always" into some grass underneath its feet? Though the patronus smoke would be cool too ^_^

Plus, it's not so much just because it's HP that I want to get it. I mainly want it because it's my dream to have someone love me like that. I know most of those types of love stories are for books, but to actually have someone love you all of their lives, until the day they die, with a passion, is amazing. I am getting married, and love my fiancee, but I still look at things with a modern cynicism, doubting things will really last "forever", or in the HP case, "Always." Things happen, they fall out of love, etc., but to truly never doubt someones love and devotion, that is what I wish for.

I agree with what Ryan said. If I got tattoos for everything that "moved" me when I was younger, my body would be an homage to the 70's. *shudders*
Just imagine, you're 60 years old, sitting in a doctor's office and the nurse asks, "hey, what's that tattoo?" Will you still be comfortable then explaining it?

I am aware that love story's like that don't truly exist.

I was saying that I have a realistic outlook on things. I love him, and I HOPE that we last for years, but I've never personally know anyone who's marriage has lasted. I am aware that love story's like that don't truly exist. I'm not commenting on your engagement one way or the other. But my marriage and love to my wife is as strong as any love story. I wouldn't have married her if it weren't. I'd die for her in a moment (unless it involves sharks, then she has to deal with it, but that's our agreement ). I think it's sad that people have the mentality that true love is something only found in fairy tales and that they settle for less. I think that is the cause of the high divorce rates, which just then add to the illusion that there is no such thing as true love. It's a cyclical process that gets worse the more people that buy into it. I also think people give in too easily and would rather risk a bad marriage than tough it out alone until they find the right person. Some people are just too scared of not being in a relationship for more than 5 minutes so they settle for what they can get. That isn't true love.

Well, I am not so much saying that I don't think that True Love exists, because I was in love once with every fiber of my being, I am saying that a truly happy ending true love may not exist, as least for some. I believe that there are just different kinds of love. Perhaps my mentality will make more sense if I tell a bit of my story. As most know, I am in the Army. Also, as most know, I was pretty much nowhere to be found for a couple of years. The reason is because I fell in love with another solider while I was stationed in Afghanistan. It was amazing, and the first time I had ever opened myself to another person period. I thought that I was having my own little fairy tale. We talked about getting married when we got home, he even saved my life once. I was young, and grew up believing in Disney fairy tale loves, that last forever and everyone walks off into the sunset. But he died, about a month before we were to go on leave. I went through this whole crazy thing where I just didn't talk to anyone, I was sure that I would never want anything to do with anyone anymore. But when I got home, I met the man that is now going to be my Husband. He helped me to live and love again, he stood by me while I was in counseling for a year, understood that Chris would always be a part of me, but our love and relationship is more comfortable and I feel like this is what real love is. It's not going crazy, it's not killing yourself if they don't love you, or loving someone from afar for all of your life, it's not running in front of a bullet in slow motion screaming "Nooooo" (I had a vision of Timecop for that one), It's knowing that they are there for you, that you can see them being a great husband and father, it's building a life together. Do I think that we will live happily together until we are 90? I certainly hope so, and all of our plans and dreams are based off that belief, but in the back of my head I am still prepared for anything to happen. I hope that clears it up a little bit and makes me sound less like an emotionless harpy

While I think you have a sad past I feel like that adds value to your present. My comments were based more on observation of society and maybe on posts from others in this thread. I think you have something special. ;D I hope you have a long and happy marriage that never ends, even if you accept the possibility.

Do what you want with your body. It isn't mine. It's yours. However, I personally will never get a tattoo on my body because I cherish my body and treat it more than just skin and bones. It's the only body I'm going to get, so I don't want to abuse it and throw tons of ink all over it. I'd rather keep it clean and use my ability to speak (or buy clothes that have pics of the things I like) to share my likes.

I was thinking the opposite, what an open mind from a such a religious person. Some one who doesn't actually care what others do with their own freedoms... like gay marriage for example. I thought it was very forward thinking on his part. Though I can definitely see the "I'm accepting... but here's whats wrong with you" statement there.

Since everyone else is telling you not to Ill tell you to do it, but... Make sure you are doing it because you like it and want it now. Make sure HP is important to you. Tattoos are viewed by too many people as negative and by too many people with concerns that they are flavors of the week. I take the approach that tattoos are a map of your life. When you're 50 as was suggested above, you can look at your tattoo and remember what a big part of HP was in your life, you obviously have memories associated with it. Those memories are what you will think of when you are 50 assuming your attitude about tattoos is the right one. Tattoos should hold a special meaning to you that you want to keep with you forever. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do with your own body. People who are against tattoos for what they will be in the future don't understand what a tattoo is to begin with. Edit : All of my tattoos (and planned tattoos) have very deep meaning to me. And whenever I see them I know exactly how they had influence on my life and why they are important. I will never forget certain things as a result. Memories and meanings remain fresh in my mind. Also if you have artistic skill I recommend drawing them yourself. I can't imagine any of my tattoos had I not created them myself. ^^ This i have one on my arm, and i told my self i was only going to have one but know i have already have my second one planned out. Make sure you get it somewhere it could be covered if you want it to be. Dont let people talk you out of it if you know you will like it when your older get it.
