Earlier today, I used the 'report abuse' facility to send to ProBoards the evidence which I've collected to identify the person who hacked into the 'Cutting Edge' forum (which I co-administer) and deleted it on two successive days last week. Hacking of a website is just as illegal as the phone-hacking which has been linked to News Corporation, and it should be taken seriously. This is the reply which I received to my report:- Re: Hacking Of Cutting Edge forum 21-22 August (Ticket #7239)
For assistance with keeping certain users from accessing your forum, please create a thread on our support forum at support.proboards.com and a staff member will be able to assist you there.

Frankly, I don't think that you can file any sort of charges because you don't own either of the two services that were exploited. When you're using a ProBoards forum, you don't have any rights to it - you are simply borrowing a spot on their server. ProBoards staff would have to file the charges and I wouldn't be too optimistic on them doing that because logging into somebody's insecure forum and email account are pretty commonplace and not worth pursuing.

Devin. The staff of ProBoards were very very helpful and reassuring when our forum was hacked and deleted twice last week, and for that my Co-Administrator and I are extremely grateful.
I would have thought that it was in the interests of ProBoards to prevent any form of illegal activity occurring on its forums. I may not own the website or any hotmail services, but I do own my own computer and that's been compromised during this occurrence.
I've sent all my evidence to ProBoards using the 'report abuse' form, and hopefully someone will care enough to deal with the hacker. At the very least, I feel he should be banned from all ProBoards forums for life.

Hi Devin, While the willingness to help is appreciated, can you leave these types of threads to ProBoards staff please? Just want to be sure that the info provided is accurate, which the info you provided might not be. Thanks
Ivan, I'll try to get a more official response for you. This should be done before 5pm pacific time today.
