Forum URL: alohomorarp.proboards.comThere have been half a dozen times now when I've had spammer on the site. They go one, make an account, post links to various sites, then vanish again. Frankly, I'm sick of banning IP/Email/etc and them still coming back. It always seems to be sites to do with Kitchens/Bathrooms too. What I'm basically asking, is: Is there a better way to deal with/ get rid of these people other than just the ordinary site ban method?

That way, you control who becomes member. You'll see their details; ie, email address, username and IP number before deciding : In your admin panel, under General settings, there's the Limited Registrations option. Set that to yes. This will make it so you have to approve any members before they can access your forum. Whenever a prospective member signs up, a View Pending account link will appear under Manage Members, in your admin panel. You can then decide whether to approve or deny their 'application'. Btw, you can empower other staff members to do this, too. Meantime, the prospective members will get a message informing them that their account is awaiting approval. They can activate their account, but cannot see or post on the forum until approval has been granted. While they wait for approval, you can check their details here. It's a handy site for checking out known spammers. We refer to it, too. * I just did a random check of a couple of boards on your forum, and found I could post if I wanted to. It's best to not allow non members to post. By stopping guests posting, you'll find the spamming problem will decrease. So, you may not need to apply the Limited registration option I just described. In your admin panel, go to modify boards. For each board, there is an option as to who can post and reply to topics. Simply select Registered Members or only staff. Then, click on modify board at the bottom, to complete.
