Hello TodgeI'm not new to forums, but the problem / confusion am having with this makes me seem like I am! Heh, please help. I've just set up a new forum today, at http://www.discuss42.boards.net So, I've added the Smiley plug in, I've added the link that the smiley is at into the field, and refreshed so that the smiley appears, I can add a bunch of smileys into the list no problem, but, how do I make them appear in the drop down menu for the smileys when am replying to a post? I can click the 'Get list' button, and it comes up with an alert saying 'copy and paste the array into the smiley plugin'... is this not the smiley plugin? If so, then it's already there in the list? Really confused... and will I be able to get rid of the standard smileys that are on the forum and just have the ones I upload / link to myself? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you are using the Smilie Management plugin.
That plugin was written to make it easier to edi the smilies you have in the Smilie Dropdown plugin.
A link to the plugin you need to use with the one you have can be found in the opening post of this thread.

Aha fair does. Thanks for that. That makes more sense now. I was just baffled by how the original post was laid out I guess. Different links to different things. Have installed it now and it all becomes clear :-) cheers Todge

The smileys are working fine for me in your quick reply area.
Are they not showing at all for you, or simply not workinb when clicked on?

Once I click and the code to smiley post in Q.R. then I click send to post it, all I see is the code, not the smilie?!

Could you please try posting using your quick reply as a guest, and tell me if it then works.
Also, do you have any other buttons below the quick reply text area besides the 'Post Quick Reply' button.

I posted in Daily Funnys (Jokes) as a Guest named "test" and it worked fine?! Were you able to fix it? If so, thanks a million!

Nope, I've not touched it, I was wondering if it was acting any different for guests and members.
I don't have a computer right now, so there's not a lot I can do at the moment, but a brand new one is on its way, so I can take a closer look in a few days.
Until then, try disabling your other plugins and see if the smileys then work for you when logged in, if they do, re enable them kne at a time, testing the smileys as you go until you find the offending plugin, and let mr know which one it is. That will make it easier in tracking down any problems.

Just to be clear on a couple things. I wasn't sure if this was the case because there are no example images of what the plugin looks like when in use, so I was confused when I clicked "Select Smiley" and it just brought down a list of text codes. I can click "View All Smilies" and it gives me what I would ideally like to see. Is this correct in how it's supposed to work? That upon the first initial click it just shows the smiley codes, rather than the smilies themselves? Also when I have categories added, they appear amongst the list of "::blahblah::" codes, but clicking on them yields nothing. They do look nice if you click the "View All Smilies" section, though, being separated. Is there any way to make this function so that I only have a single click to view them outright? For example, instead of "Select Smiley" and "View All Smileys", there can just be a single button that says "View Other Smilies", which would popup the view all smileys window, featuring the smileys and categories in their entirety. Maybe I'm OCD, but I'm not particularly fond of the first thing being seen is a list of codes and category titles that do nothing, rather than just simply seeing a list of the actual smiley graphics themselves. That is, unless I just ranted for nothing and something's not right with my installation. Otherwise it seems nice enough, and easy to use.

The initial dropdown lists only the smiley codes because of the time it would take to load all the images in a scrollable form if you had a lot of them, so, clicking on a smiley code in the dropdown displays the smiley in the box, then clicking on that will add the code to the message area. The 'View all Smileys' option was added if you'd rather display them all in a pop up table instead.
The dropdown and the display box can be removed using CSS leaving only the 'View All Smileys' button, but the button would still be within the standard smileys section.
If you'd like a separate button to display the extra smileys, I can add that as an option to the plugin, but you will have to wait a few days as I currently do not have a computer, and coding on a tablet is frustrating at best. Just bump this thread every couple of days or so and I'll jump to it as soon as my new PC arrives and is set up, which should be in 2 to 3 weeks, according to PCSpecialists.

No rush. That would be awesome if you implemented that idea. And yeah, that's what I meant. So if you if you click the standard smiley box, there would just be a single button at the bottom that says "View Other Smilies". I'll try removing the Select Smiley drop box in the mean time. Thank you for taking the time.
