How can I rename these..
$[recent_threads_link] - $[recent_posts_link] - $[rss_feed_link]{if $[mark_boards_read_link]} - $[mark_boards_read_link]{/if} - $[birthdays_today_link] - $[view_todays_active_members_link]
For example, they show like this: Recent Threads - Recent Posts - RSS Feed - Mark All Boards Read - View today's birthdays - View members online in the last 24 hours
I want the outcomes to be different words. I want the above to become the following:
View our recent threads or posts, users on in the past 24hrs or todays birthdays RSS Feed - Mark Boards Read
Hope this makes sense. I can edit it all myself but I just don't know where to look..

I'm guessing that there are probably a couple ways to change the wording, one way would be Javascript, and another would be editing the templates. Since I have no real knowledge of Javascript however...
Anyways, go to Themes -> Layout Templates -> Home
Now, I haven't tested this, but I believe the way to go about editing the templates would involve reconstructing the links. Under most of the link variables are sub-variables, for example the recent_posts_link variable has the following sub-variables.
accesskey class href id rel role style target title
It should be possible to create links by using some HTML and those sub-variables, for example:
<a href="$[recent_posts_link.href]">posts</a>
This should create a recent posts link with the text "posts". Hope all of that made sense.

Maybe I've done something wrong or missed something off, but unfortunately it isn't working (see attachment). <table> <tbody> <tr><td><b><font color="#00b8ee">$[total_posts]</font> posts</b> made in <b><font color="#00b8ee">$[total_threads]</font> threads</b> </td></tr> {if $[last_updated_thread]}<tr><td>Last Updated: $[last_updated_thread.recent_link] by $[last_updated_thread.last_post.created_by_user] ($[last_updated_thread.last_post.date])</td></tr>{/if} <tr><td>view our recent <a href="$[recent_threads_link]">threads</a> or <a href="$[recent_posts_link.href]">posts</a>, users online in the <a href="$[view_todays_active_members_link]">last 24hrs</a> or <a href="$[birthdays_today_link]">todays birthdays</a> - $[rss_feed_link]{if $[mark_boards_read_link]} - $[mark_boards_read_link]{/if}</td></tr> </tbody> </table>

That's where the sub-variables come in, for example, instead of using $[recent_threads_link] use $[recent_threads_link.href]
$[recent_threads_link] is the variable that contains the entire link, using it breaks the new link. $[recent_threads_link.href] is the sub-variable that contains just the href, using it makes the new link work.

Hahaha I didn't realise you'd added .href to the ID too. Doh. It works, thanks a bunch

Cheers Mabel Pines - somehow hadn't realised this yet, and your posts have meant that I could finally make a little change that'd been niggling at me. Looks like I need to start paying more attention. =P

the <li> is because its a proboards thing, because its the titlebar or something major? i know the nav menu is like that i had to use them to add it to a table
i got it changed, thanks
but that button came back over it, would i have to add href in the stylesheet to get rid of it
and if anyone knows how to get the color to change in the bottom gradient i added, the text changes and for some reason it changed colors to my titlebar colors which i wanted but cant get the bottom one
<div class="title_wrapper" style="color: transparent;">$[pagination] <div style="float:right; padding-right:15px; padding-top:10px;"><li><a href="$[create_thread_button.href]">New Post</a></li></div></h2></div>
