Did you see that instruction on page one of this thread about how to get the smilie changes to show up in Quick Reply, Forever Sunshine? I didn't at first. You have to turn on the Shoutbox. I don't use the Shoutbox, but Eton Bones shows you how to still make this work and how to turn off the Shoutbox if you don't want to use it. Check out that first page and scroll down a bit and you will see the way to make it work.

jrryan, I had the same problem and so did a friend. I went to the first page of this thread and got version 9.5 and it brought back the rest of the buttons. That new thing Proboards added isn't there though, so I don't know about that Reply link part. ETA: That new button added by Proboards has now come back on it's own, so all is good.

jrryan, that new "button" option didn't show up right away for me or my friend. But after awhile (a few posts,) I guess Proboards had a hiccup at our sites and installed it again on both Reply and Quick Reply. But I'm using the 9.5. Maybe the 8.9 version is preventing that hiccup from occurring? Try the 9.5 version and see what happens.

Aha, Chris, that is exactly what I did to 'wake up' the Proboards program, I used the Full Reply option. Thank you for the validation and explanation. I also thank you for your dedication to insuring that your contributions are up to date, over and over again. You are a true asset to Proboards, I hope they appreciate your efforts.

Chris, everything seems to be working for me, but this thread is really long now and I am wondering what I am missing. (BTW, it would be a big help if you would add a date to your upgrades in that first post so we could tell at a glance when it was produced.) I am using version 0.9.5.

Goodness, Chris, anything I can do to help you help us, I'm definitely willing to do. Ok, let me see, I actually have been having a problem for the last week. But I thought it was attributed to me downloading Windows 10 which turned into a nightmare and having to rebuild my computer. I also blamed it on my mouse. But I'll describe it. I normally use the Quick Reply option. When I am typing a post and I click on the little smilie in the QR button menu, it doesn't open at first, it applies a smilie, often inappropriate. So for the past few days, I have been avoiding adding smilies in QR. I have experimented a few times and found out that if I can get my mouse pointer on a tiny part of the white border of the smilie button, sometimes it will open and I can then pick a smilie. But it's frustrating. I mostly use the Link option and the Smilie option. The Link works great! I'll check with my friend's sites. I'm an admin on a few of them and I will see if any of them are using this version.

OMG, Chris, you cracked me up. Thanks, I really needed that.
1. I rebuilt back to Windows 7 Ultimate. Windows 10 ate my computer. It does not play nicely with Windows 7 Ultimate, it's fine for Windows 7 Home and W8 and W8.1, though. Although, I may take that back. Some of my friends that felt sorry for me are now saying their computers are also crashing like dominoes.
2. I use IE, and have not used Chrome (shudder) or FF in weeks.
3. I have a tendency to not wrap my finger well enough down on the left side and had some problems expediting things, so I took that into account and made sure to have my finger positioned and it didn't make any difference.
4. I just went to experiment and naturally, the problem would not manifest itself even though it has been a recurring thing for many days. But it was also a very short test post on my part. (I tend to be very wordy in post, perhaps that makes a difference?) But yes, in general, it was happening on QR, and not in the Reply option.
5. Inappropriate, meaning I was trying to express a smile and would get a frown, or a sad and would get a LOL. But remember, I didn't really have a choice, the darned thing would not open. I just have to back that out and put in the correct one once the smilies open. Actually, it was a darned mystery and sometimes made me laugh, because I have a ton of smilies and clicking on the Smile icon in the UBBC buttons would open them at random! Darnedest thing I've ever seen!! Sorry, getting of track here, but while it's a nuisance, I've also had some laughs. Oh, and I've also had several smilies show up in my feeble attempt to get the darned button to open up, and they were different smilies. Nothing X rated, like offsite was entered, just not the emote I was wanting to express.
6. Yes, the image gets inserted without the button being opened.
7. Good question! I use the Standard smiley option that comes with V5 with my own smilie subs, not that fancy dancy thing. But I do use a plugin of Todges, it's actually named after me, and it's JJ Smilie Dropdown. Todge made me a plugin using his 4.5 version of a smilie loader for extra smilies at my request.
8. The T Rex - LINK
9. Marilyn Monroe?
10. Pinocchio

Chris, I definitely think it is my mouse causing the problem. I was over at a friend's site tonight, (She is using version 0.9.0) and I am getting duplicates when I click on a few things, like the Easy Tag plugin. Hmm... but then I think of a friend that has a Zeta board and I'm not having the problem. Heck, I don't know. I'm going to get a new mouse. I'll get back with you.

Hi, Chris. Got a question, is this fix a general fis and everyone should probably update the plugin, or fact specific to IE? I had to quit using IE about 4 months ago, it really wasn't playing nice with W10 and all the updates. I still prefer it, but am using Firefox now. By the way, a couple of days ago the little smile icon disappeared in my Quick Reply but I didn't have time to address the issue. It's back now, by magic, and I can see the smilies, but they don't always work on a click. Actually, it's become pretty common in the last few weeks. Wasn't sure if it was the cumulative update by W10 or not. hootyowl.proboards.com

Ok. Thanks, Chris. I've noticed a lot of hiccups in the smilie section, in the last few weeks. I'm pretty sure it's W10 related. But oddly, some straighten themselves out. Your answer also provided a hint to me. When the QR wasn't showing them, I did start using the Reply instead, which you say would have caused an update. It's all integral. I do have some trepidation regarding V6. Sure wish they'd get that done so we could just move on. *sigh*

I did all that shoutbox stuff long ago, Chris, got that under control and even helped a few people that didn't understand the steps. My drop down smileys are all links, but I do have some of my default replacement smileys hosted at Proboards. I am also one of the fortunate few that didn't even have links messed up when Photobucket got into a snit, because I wasn't using the culprit third party link. I use the IMG code and not the other things that caused all the furor. It's unfortunate that Photobucket did such a lousy job of explaining the third party linking issue and folks thought they were being asked to shell out big bucks to use the service. I have two accounts, one free and one I pay for to host large files. I never lost a single image, including my free account, where most of my smileys are hosted. The plugin you provided so long ago is a keeper, and I thank you for helping all of us that had issues with the learning curve.

All of a sudden my Quick Reply quit showing my Custom Smileys, it only shows the default ones. Any idea why? I checked, and I do have the Shoutbox situation handled, changed that code in the Template long ago.
Thanks for your help. JJ

Wow, who knew, Chris . I never went in there to disable it, I swear, never touched the thing and haven't in years. Yesterday afternoon, all of a sudden, the plugin just stopped working. Something funky was going on, though, because one of my members said she had odd things going on in the theme she was in. Thanks, I never backtracked that far because I "knew" it was enabled. I was smart enough to check the Template area, but not that setting. You saved me a whole lot of head scratching and wondering. I blame everything on V6 prep, of course. LOL ETA: Just went to check my test site, and yep, it had been disabled there. Hmm...
