And although we all call it as such, it's actually not an upgrade, it's a migration to a completely rebuilt server-side application that is not using the old v4 stuff, which is even more intense. And to do any migration as transparent to the end users as this is, is pretty good for a FREE forum. Everybody wants, and they all want it for free.

I leave you with this latest response from our admin, and that's all I have to say on the matter. Who knows, I may eventually get to like V5.
"Len, as we explained, we understood it was for a trial period too but Proboards (our host) informed us that they are upgrading all their boards so I`m afraid we have no choice and there is no going back. It hasn`t been easy for admin either, we would much rather have kept things as they were as it created a mountain of technical work and sleepless nights for us to make our board compatible to the new system, we had no option, it was either that or lose GlesgaChinas board altogether "

Proboards DID NOT upgrade any forum who's admin didn't ask for it by clicking the Upgrade link as stated earlier in great detail.

They could have stayed with the current version until the end of the year! They have a whole twelve months of choice when to upgrade. (He is right in that you do have to upgrade eventually. That's life. Aupport for old software is withdrawn, all companies do it all over, and not even just for software, support for old machines, anything. Outdated technology gets replaced and discontinued.) It wasn't hard for admins, we've been given every luxury. - Plenty of warning - including an 8 month extension to the final upgrade date.
- The opportunity to create test copies of our forums so that we could see exactly what would happen to our forum and so we could learn to use the new version.
- Themes exportable from the test copies for instant important into the actual conversion
- Plugins for instant addition of functionality.
- Fantastic support here on Support. (Both Proboards Staff and other knowledgeable members)
That's not even considering the fact that V5 is so much easier for admins to use (Yes it is different so if your not willing to give things a chance and get used to them you may argue with this point).
If the only problem you have with the upgrade is that you think the layout/colour scheme is ugly tell your admin to get on and fix it. If they get stuck tell them to come here and ask for help.

I personally find it kind of rude of you to be giving PB AND your Admin such grief over this. I'm getting the impression that the board changed, the members became an angry mob about it on the boards, the Admin got really sheepish and defensive and tried to tell you it wasn't his decision. So that inspired you to come over here, make an account and tell ProBoards that you hate it, because nobody else has said that so far and it should surely get them to change things.
It's ProBoards' software, and your Admin's forum. They can do whatever they want with it and do not need express approval, I'm sorry to be blunt. Of course, both aim to please its members and if you'd give V5 even a little bit of a chance, you'd see that you the MEMBER benefit from this the most. You don't have anything to get used to other than the "look", but even then, if your Admin takes the time to learn he will soon have the forum looking like it did. You have literally NO work to do, NO responsibility, NO learning curve, and from what I can see, NO patience.
Your admin SHOULD have told you that the changes were coming, but I'm beginning to think your Admin didn't look into it very much, didn't realize that this wasn't just an upgrade--but a total facelift--and didn't think the members would notice anything changed anyway. It was a silly move but not one I can't understand. I mean, I knew V5 would be a big upgrade because it's named V5 and not V4.8 or something. But maybe your Admin just thought the changes would affect only the way he runs the forum (the Admin Panel) and not the way it looks. And now he's backpedaling REALLY fast.
I implore you to just be patient and if you want to be of any help, encourage the other members to be patient as well. Change is good, you'll see that. And I'm giving your Admin the benefit of the doubt on this, but if he is in fact just being a big fat liar who's trying to direct the blame elsewhere, well, shame on him. But it doesn't change the fact that V5 is amazing. If your Admin takes the time to adjust and comes here to receive support, your forum will not only look like you're used to, but it may even be better.
