For some reason i get more and more un easy about this. That land lord is taking way to long for my liking. He seems to enjoy jerking you guys around. After what the roomate did he shouldn't be having a tough time of anything. I really think you should consider finding something else as a back up plan.

I'm starting to agree with Ameline, I don't know what more evidence he needs to kick her out...

Our backup plan is for September 1st, he said there would be a decision this week. I told the broker everything since he told me to refer to her in a VERY lengthy email. I detailed my step by step conversations with the landlord and what the roommate is doing, and also presented her with the photo of the missing thermostat and expressed 'concern' of my roommates well-being. I also informed her of our ability to sign a two year lease instead of one, which as my roommate claims to be moving in with her boyfriend soon she probably wouldn't. Finally, I said that I am legally classified as a co-tenant as in Mass. the law states that a co-tenant is someone who is recognized by the landlord through written or oral lease. My roommate is treating me as a sub-tenant, which would mean I was paying rent through her, and the landlord would have no knowledge of me. Due to this only the landlord can give me the 60 day notice via an eviction letter, which he did not. If she continues to persist that I move out August 30th, my uncle is a lawyer and I have no problems taking legal action against her, but said I sincerely hoped it wouldn't come to that.

It'd be cheaper for you to find somewhere else. Just sayin' If she wins [we don't know how corrupt your landlord is] you'll have all the legal costs to pay for won't you?

August 1st I meant, sorry!
He won't want it to come to legal action; this is supposed to be low income housing which is how he got the loan to fix up the apartments in the first place, and instead he's using it as a rent controlled building, which is why there are no legal leases.
I also just can't get her shrill voice out of my head "It's MY apartment, I invited YOU to live here, so I can kick YOU out anytime I want!" uh sorry I moved in the same time as her, her argument is invalid.

I'd rather find somewhere else to live. A dump apartment is better then none. I would hate to wait and then get evicted in September. It took me a whole summer to find my first apartment. So i really think it's something you should look into when you have the time instead of rushing. But i guess you know your landlord better then i do. It just looks a little odd and potentially problematic from the where i'm looking.

I know, I know.... But you have to look out for number one...you. Just do some digging, see what's about, what's available and how much...just in case. Forewarned, is forearmed, as they say

The broker said she'd have the decision ready by Friday. I'm slightly annoyed that she seemed to take my roommates side since she found the apartment, but I really feel that I strengthened my stance. One thing that DID piss me off though was that she said I can move out 9/1 however it would mess up my roommates plan since she has someone for 8/1. I basically told her in the politest way possible that I did not give two sh!ts whether or not she had plans, she overstepped her boundary as a roommate and has to take the consequences.

Good i'm glad your not leaving things to chance. Their clearly trying to buy time, for what reason i don't know. But it doesn't matter, you don't want to be caught in the middle of whatever it is. Keep looking for something else no matter what they say to try and persuade you. It will be better for you and your friends that way.

Nah not leaving it up to chance. I think of it as a win win.
win 1 - If we get the apartment, then obviously this is the mega win and karma is a female dog to my roommate.
win 2 - If she gets the apartment then she still screwed over her friend who wanted to move in during August 1st, and I don't have to deal with a broker who has a clear bias and a landlord who can't make a decision that really should be clear cut.
All in all, in September I'll be living in an apartment with two of my close friends which is what matters most.

Hi all,
Unfortunately, the broker has decided to go with my crazy roommate's applicants over mine due to job stability and income (which makes sense as they're 7 years older than us and my one roommate is in grad school). So that's unfortunate. I did get the 9/1 moveout date with assurance that if my roommate tries to move my things out that I could call the cops and she'd get in trouble.
On the bright side, we went apartment searching yesterday and found a great place that is a lot bigger than my current apartment (it has a dining room...what?) so we're going to be moving forward with that one.
It's funny, I'm not even mad anymore because I feel like I've been jerked around by the broker, roommate and landlord to a point where I'd just rather start off fresh with my friends somewhere new.
Thanks everyone for the support! I'll definitely update y'all if she goes crazy and gets carted off in a strait jacket ^_^

I'm happy that you found a better place. It's a shame they went with the other roommate. I definitely wouldn't have. Job stability or not, i wouldn't want someone who wrecks stuff in my apartment.
