So this merge thing sometimes works on my forum, but a lot of the time doesn't.. I even went and merged to posts myself.. came back 5 minutes later and theyre back to being two posts.

I have the minimum posts set to 5 so thats not a problem.

mean?

its only going to merge posts by the same author appearing on the same page. if you post and it goes in the next page, its not going to merge the post with the previous page or anything. there is no ACTUAL content merging serverside. its just consolidating multiple posts into a single post so if you have one of those people that cant find an edit button, it doesnt show their signature mutliple times on the page.

do you have a guest accessible thread I can look at? is it more consistently failing with a certain browser?

Hey worm, forgive my lack of typing skills in the previous post I was in a rush and wanted to get the message sent.

Allow me to explain again. I have installed the plugin, and requested certain boards to be merged.. I go to said boards and the posts are not merged.. I understand that it merges two posts from the same author in a row.. or whatever number I set it to.. I can double post and sometimes it'll merge, but when I come back to the page sometime late there is a possibility it becomes 2 posts again.

I have even edited someones second post who has double posted and saved so it auto merged... then sometime later it goes back to being separate posts again. I am using Chrome, several members have confirmed this error on different browsers aswell. Unfortunately we do not have our boards set to open due to security reasons however registration is open and auto accepted with no pending. The plugin is currently turned off right now due to the headache posts im getting from my members.

I just tested in all 3 browsers and it doesnt seem to fail for me. it might be something in your template maybe? It even works on Alters if you are running that code, so I cant figure out why it doesnt run for you.

if you refresh the page, does it merge then? do you have a different browser to see if it work for you in that broswer?

I just found it merges guest posts though.. so I am fixing that.

if you link me the board and turn on the plugin I will see if I can get it to fail there.

I love the idea of this plugin but I am uncertain as to what parameters it will run?

If I have a thread with a thousand posts will it consolidate all posts from all users up to the amount set (the default is 5) as per settings?

I just want to eliminate double posting but all other posts I want to remain where they are.

Does the plugin retrospectively affect posts?

Is there an option to have a time period set?

Example: User X posts and then fails to use the edit button and goes for "das große Doppel-Post" and myself, as admin, has a time period set in the plugin of, say, 24 hours and in that period User X can not post a second post under his/her last one?

That would be ideal.

Forgive me if this is already possible, I am entering the vast world of plugins just today and am very much still finding my feet so please be gentle

it literally just combines 2 or more posts (up to however many you set) in a row into one post. it doesnt actually change the post itself. its an illusion. it will combine ALL multi-posts even in previous threads. if you dont want the merge to affect a board, it can be excluded. it only merges posts by the same author.

there is currently no time limit set, but that is an interesting addition I can add in.

I am however finding that now it is not working at all.

I have it set to default and to apply to all boards but my test posts are still separate?

Adding in the time limit would be great, then you can set the time limit to x sec/min/hours/days or opt to use the method that is already built in, I know I would absolutely prefer the timed method

Is it possible to apply a filter to only impact posts up a certain amount of days/months old?

No mate but it is running now, not sure what happened there but I am not ruling out user error

if I have any further issues or questions I shall pop them in here.

I added in a "under time" variable to have it merge only posts made under a certain time from the previous post. still working on a "dont merge before date" option.. but storing a date is annoying.
