What happens if someone's forum hits Reddit and gets an insane amount of page views in a short amount of time? Hope you have ads and that the redditors aren't using adblock. You're going to be rolling.

For those wondering about moving from Forums.net back to ProBoards, that isn't something we've made any decisions on, but honestly I don't see why we couldn't make it happen. But understand there are a couple differences that can cause issues on our end we have to address. Forums.net does not use the global login system. We transition your users seamlessly over to logging in directly on your forum with Forums.net. Moving users back over to ProBoards would require some thinking on our end on how that could be possible. We do a bit of trickery to maintain your existing logins when moving over, and would have to probably do something similar to be able to move back. Regardless, if someone really wanted to move back to ProBoards from Forums.net (and the forum didn't have adult content), I'm sure we can find a way to make it happen. Worst case scenario, though, is users may have to do a "Forgot Password" to do a password reset. Isn't the "InSite Forwarding" already standard with free ProBoards forums that use a custom domain? It's a great feature and a great way for ProBoards to make money off of new business (which I think PB deserves) but is this also the same thing? Custom domains let you have "forum.your-domain.com" - InSite Forwarding lets you have "your-domain.com/forum"

Hey, admins! Just whenever you guys get the chance, I have some questions before I purchase. Sorry, I'm skittish and have to be sure about things xD
1) Will my current proboards.com forum be deleted or no longer accessible?
2) When am I billed, at the first of every month? I see it says every 30 days, so I'm going to assume that's 30 days from the day I start paying, but I wanna verify.
3) How does the 16 cents for every extra 1k pageview work? is it tacked onto the next payment, or is it charged immediately upon the overdraft, or...? Nevermind, number 5 answers this
4) I see you say "A pageview occurs when a request is received by our forum software to load data. For example, if a user views your forum homepage this will count as one pageview. An AJAX request to your forum is also counted as a pageview." in the FAQ. Just because that sounds like plugin-terms to me, I need to ask: are there any plugins that are going to be contributing to this amount? Like any that 'load data' in a manner that will count as a pageview? Or anything else besides a viewer looking at a page that counts as a pageview?
5) Just letting you know you have said 16 cents per 1k overdraft throughout the info and now you said 15 cents in the FAQ, figure you should fix one or the other so I'd let you know: "For example, if your pageview overage rate is $0.15 per 1,000 pageviews and your forum goes over by 3,000 pageviews, you will be charged an additional $0.45 on your next bill."
Will edit any others that come to me.

Okay I'm looking through again and I'm also curious as I've also purchased additional plugin space for SHIELD so again I might wait for the answers to Elfs questions first and look at it again

Will edit any others that come to me. 1) Your forum will redirect for, if I'm not mistaken, two weeks. Tim Camara can confirm. 2) Another one Tim Camara will have to confirm, he can correct me if I'm wrong here (he coded it ), but I believe you are charged for your base plan immediately and any overages get charged with your next bill. 3) Next bill 4) It's whenever a request is received by the forum software (except for the shoutbox, we've set it up to not count shoutbox refreshes against your pageviews). So if a plugin does a plugin key set() function call, this triggers an AJAX call to the server. Similarly, navigating from page 1 to page 2 of a thread triggers an AJAX call to the server. Both of these count as a pageview. 5) We will get that corrected, but it is just illustrating an example. But we will match it up with one of our plans (our plans have $0.16, $0.12, and $0.10 depending on which plan you have picked)

I know Tim Camara is working on a system that will allow us to give discounts for things such as this within a week or two max (perhaps even sooner).

I will not be signing up for Forums.net. Even if I could afford it, I would not pay for my internet site.
I hope the free proboards.com will still be available.

Only 10 plugins available with the personal plan? The free forums currently allow 40 plugins so if I were to transfer over I'd have to pay about $15 each month just to keep my current plugins.

Just an idea but maybe there could be a 20% discount code added for people that already have active free forums going?

Congratulations Proboards admins and coders on the launch of a new venture. Here's hoping it is very successful! I imagine that it must be deflating to finally make this long-awaited, much-anticipated announcement and have it met with so much negativity. I am, sadly, in the same camp as those who were hoping that there would be some kind of upgrade that would allow us to choose the PG13+ feature. I was expecting that individual members would be able to pay/contribute a nominal charge if they wanted to access the PG13+ content. I really don't need the other features and I am hoping that Forums.net does not signal the beginning of the end of the services and support we currently enjoy and appreciate. I echo pretty much everything moonbeam said in this thread. She said it very articulately and I really cannot add more than that. I agree that the service and reliability here, as well as the community as a whole, is awesome.
I also think it's great that PB is finding ways to branch out and offer expansion on their existing product. I think where I am having problems is that they built this whole thing up (via little hints dropped here and there), and most of us were excited to hear about these new offerings - only to find out that they're really not geared for most of us. It feels like we were mislead, to an extent. Yes, I'm sure there are a number of existing businesses here, or others that just hate the branding so much that they'll jump on it.
But for the rest of us, who just have regular forums/ RPs, etc., and wanted to take advantage of the ability to relax on the PG13 aspect, well, it's not what we were expecting.

Aw, geez.. Now I feel kind of bad, because I don't mean any of what I've said to be negative.
I love ProBoards, and really can't imagine going anywhere else. I'm simply disappointed/ let down that things weren't quite what I'd hoped they'd be. But, I am encouraged by the fact that VS Admin has said they will consider options for those of us who aren't looking for all that forums.net is offering.
I was thinking that if it were possible to have a 'content upgrade', that I would probably want to make a category just for that, and tell my members that they have to keep it to that area. That way, if something happened and I couldn't pay for it one month, it would all be in one easy to delete area. I would definitely want to avoid ToS violations!

I see it says every 30 days, so I'm going to assume that's 30 days from the day I start paying, but I wanna verify. 1) When you have finished purchasing your plan, the transfer process will begin, and your forum will be unavailable at either your old proboards URL or your new forums.net URL until the transfer is complete (most transfers will finish in just a few minutes). After that, your old proboards URL will redirect users to your new URL for two weeks, exactly as if you had purchased a forum URL change. After that two weeks, your old URL will be completely removed. 2) You are billed every 30 days, starting on the day you sign up. You will be charged the base plan price immediately, and then any additional pageviews that you use during that billing cycle will be added to your next bill.
