infiniteplay.boards.netEven though this is a new forum, I thought it would be a good idea to ask if there is anything going on here that could be scaring away potential members. I know I have a Halloween theme up right now, but surely it isn't that scary. Before anyone says anything about activity; this is a new forum and my big problem is getting members that won't just disappear after joining, if they join at all. So what do you guys think? Too many rules? Are things not well explained? Am I being too lazy with my writing or dumbing things down too much?

I think spelling it in this thread title, 'Infinate,' is a turn-off, but the forum itself has it spelled correctly. The font of the forum is somewhat childish. Change it to something mature, if you'd like to look more serious. Also, the concept is very general and, to be honest, overdone. If you've got a spin, something that really sets you apart, put it all over the place. Don't focus so much on advertising it as multi-realm fandom, talk about the awesome twist you have in store! There are a million panfandom roleplays, if people want one, they'll go to one that's already active, and the reason they are active is probably because they have something that draws attention and sets them apart. EDIT: I now see that it's misspelled on purpose. However, no one is going to know unless they read that one section of that one thread, and it's not in your banner or the forum title. Stand behind it and use it everywhere or ditch it, but I suggest you ditch it, because the reasoning, while inspirational, isn't enough of a pull-away from the fact that its misspelled.

I fixed the spelling. Need to try not to confuse myself with my personal reminders, lol.
The font is like that for the premade theme. I'm not allowed to change things like that on many of the premade themes so I assume I can't do it on any of them. Add to it that I don't have any skill with CSS and, well, yeah :/
Do you think that my unique realm, Xantara, would be a good focal point? It, too might be a little over done, seeing as how it mixes steam punk with high fantasy. Also, do you think I should focus more on the fact quests given to members are how the world is shaped? I have some good ideas, but I'm not really sure what has been over done and what hasn't been. I've been out of the rp game for almost a year now ^.^;

When you're spreading around the ad for your forum, make sure to give a little listing of the unique stuff; quests, Xantara, member-involvement. All those goodies. I think making Xantara the focal point is a great idea. Maybe at start-up, you should leave that as the only realm, and introduce other realms later. Focus on the fact that people are appearing there from other realms and then, after a while of members doing quests and moving the plot along, a portal appears to another realm. You can even let them vote on which one to open up first.
The important part of a forum's beginning, the stage I have effed myself over with enough times to understand what I've done wrong, is to keep it simple. People are already trying to wrap their head around the fact that they can create ANY character from ANY canon-verse, so you need to give them a little structure. And like I said, you have to have that one thing that makes it your flavor of panfandom. If that turns out to be Xantara, like I suggested, run with it strong.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate your honest and constructive feedback. I'll be editing my advertisement and seeing what I can do from there.
