Now, you're going to look at this, being the first dev blog in two months, and think, "Gee, those freeloaders over at ProBoards are doing very little these days." But oh, just you wait and see the things we're cooking up for you internally right now. I'm not at liberty to say, but trust me, you'll think it was worth the wait (and that's not even counting the announcement at the end of this post).
Bug Fixes
New Stuff
Continuing one of my favorite trends, make sure you welcome our newest developer, jruckle in this thread, as soon he'll be hard at work slaving over a hot keyboard all day to make amazing software for all of you.
Edit: An update in regards to the paid upgrade mentioned in the policy change can be found here.
Bug Fixes
- Pinterest supplies you with secure links, but doesn't let you embed content securely. We've added a new bit of code so that you can embed either type of content.
- In some cases the date filters for live searching were getting a bit squirrely, but have now been straightened out.
- Autolinking in posts was getting a tad aggressive, so we had a talk with it and calmed it down a bit.
- Fixed some boneheaded typos on the Forums.net homepage.
- Safari on OSX disagreed on a fundamental level with uploading theme images and importing themes, but high-level talks were fruitful and an agreement was reached.
- You can now erase your website name from your personal profile, and it'll be like it was never there.
- Gave Wormopolis some headaches by fixing a bug with plugin key array limits being allowed to be too long.
- Forum cleanup page no longer discriminates against the 'By Everyone' option.
- Restored the stars to the libraries. (That sounds like a quest log from a video game)
- Found and fixed some edge cases where uploading images would either discount or overestimate the amount of attachment space being used.
- Non-global moderator groups are once again free to move threads to boards they don't have moderator powers on.
New Stuff
- Closing a Forums.net ticket will now sort it in a way that actually makes sense.
- If you have a Forums.net forum with the Single Sign-on package, and a WordPress site, you can now combine them as easily as the lions of the Voltron Force (am I dating myself with that reference?)
- Now we have built-in support for Tapatalk's Single Sign-on protocol, so it's easier than ever to get new members for your forum from the Tapatalk family of apps.
Policy Change
As of this week, we're no longer offering transfers from ProBoards to Forums.net. This decision was not made lightly, and I hope to outline sufficiently here the reasons for doing so. First off, the number of forums that took advantage of this option was very small, a tiny fraction of the ProBoards user base. Of those forums, a large percentage eventually transferred back to ProBoards for various reasons. For a few months now, we've been looking at the two platforms, how they're similar, how they're different, and how our customers (you lovely people) are using each of them. One of the conclusions we've come to is that the two platforms serve entirely disparate audiences. With that in mind, we're aiming to customize both services to better fit each group. The first step in this process is breaking the shackles that bind the two services together. The second step, coming in the near future, is an additional paid upgrade available to ProBoards forums that supersedes ad-free and will allow for more relaxed content rules. That's all the details on this new upgrade I can give for now, but we'll have more information on this for you soon.Continuing one of my favorite trends, make sure you welcome our newest developer, jruckle in this thread, as soon he'll be hard at work slaving over a hot keyboard all day to make amazing software for all of you.
