A number of members at The World of Animals are still experiencing trouble logging in, to the point where they cannot sign in at all unless their browser does so automatically. The problems started over a year ago after the forum was deleted by a hacker and subsequently restored. Some of it I already mentioned in the relevant thread (http://support.proboards.com/thread/506310/forum-hacked), and the issue seemed to have been resolved, but as it turns out, some members are still having problems whose cause frankly eludes me. I myself couldn’t log in either from a device that didn’t already have a login-cookie, but using password recovery fixed the issue for me (that was well over a year ago if my memory serves me right). Unfortunately the same cannot be said for all our members. One of the people who posted here (link) most recently stating he solved the problem contacted me via e-mail, writing that the solution didn’t work permanently (or a second time for that matter) and that he completely lost access to his account in the process. Any help would be highly appreciated. Forum URL: theworldofanimals.proboards.com/Admin (not me): theworldofanimals.proboards.com/user/1

Hi The person that posted in that thread didn't provide much information in regards to what the actual problem they are encountering. Would you be able to find out a little more information from that person, such as what error messages they see, what unexpected behaviour occurs, and at what stage of the login process this happens.

Thanks for the response.
From what I know what the thread describes is pretty much what there is to it. Some people are getting a "The password you entered is not correct"-message when trying to sign in normally (with a correct passoword). For some, including myself, using the password reset option fixed the problem, but for others it didn’t, or at least not permanently (and only once in the case that prompted me to post here). That’s the unexpected behaviour, the site behaves as if the correct password was incorrect, even after resetting it, thereby preventing any successful login.
As far as I know that’s everything, but in case there’s something I’m not aware of I think it’s best to talk to the affected users themselves, I’ll notify them.

Hi.
I'm the person mentioned and I can only I tried to follow the instructions in the World of Animals thread as precisely as possible. While resetting my password, I tried to use my username instead of my email and I was even logged out of the ProBoards global account while trying to do the resetting. ProBoards told me that the reset was successful, but WoA still acted as if my password was incorrect when I tried using the reset password. I sometimes even tried being logged in and using the e-mail instead of the username, but neither case worked.
I don't think I can tell more details.

Thanks Ok, try following this, and let us know of any problems you encounter. 1. Go to the password reset page and enter your email address into the field provided. 2. Check your email account for the password reset email which you should have been sent. 3. Click on the link in the email to reset your password, and change it to something between 8-12 characters long, using only standard keyboard characters, such as J9mm&nM1lsYour password should be set. 4. Go to www.proboards.com and click 'login' in the top right hand corner, and enter your email address along with the password you just set. 5. You should see a list of forums, and associated forum accounts that are linked to your global account. 6. Click on the account on the WoA forum you wish to log in to, and it should direct you to the forum, where you should hopefully be logged in. If you have any problems with that, could you let us know at what stage that problem occurs, and what unexpected behaviour happens, and include any error messages received. Also, just in case there is a browser setting causing an issue, if you have another browser you could try in, that may be advantageous.

Unfortunately, my WoA account is not connected to my global proboards account which is odd (as it should show all my accounts on proboards forums where I used my E-Mail address). Only my Animalia Enthusiasts account appears on my Dashboard. Are admins able to do such connections?

Only the owner of the global account can connect and disconnect their forum accounts from it as both are handled at the global account level.

Thanks for the information.
So, is there any way I can log in without having my World of Animals account connected to my global one?

In order to utilize a forum account it must be linked to a global account.

Alright, thanks for the information again.
I recently talked to the WoA admin and he recommended me to ask the ProBoards administration to take control over the affected accounts and rectify them. Is this possible?

Referring to 'affected' accounts, is this the account currently not linked to a global account? If so, have you tried adding the account to your global account?
To do this, login to your global account, and then go to the forum and click login. You should see an option there to link forum account there.

It does offer me to link the accounts, but unfortunately, it does not have this as a separate option (it is in fact pretty much the only option I have, other than password recovery or creating a new account of course). For the linking, I need my password and the password is not accepted…

Are you able to log into the account now?
The account in question should now be showing in your dashboard on the ProBoards.com homepage when logged into your global account at the very least.
