Those ads look like they would be suited better in a sidebar. Even on mobile(320px) those ads wouldn't be a problem but what about the ad that is above the fold? Would those may be better suited as a responsive ad inside the first post of each thread? I wouldn't want an ad on the side of my forum, I think the best placement is the top and bottom ( I like the new design they have planned ) Most sites use ads in the sidebar, wordpress for example. From my experience ads are better placed within the content. After 2/3 keywords have been used. This does depend on the keyword density and if proper keywords are used. This strategy only works if content is surrounded by dense keywords AND if ads actually exist for that topic/niche. Otherwise random ads are placed, so nobody gains much revenue. For example. If you create a post about say Mass Effect(game). You place an ad after the third(3rd) paragraph, the ads will display relevant content to Mass Effect if there are any ads Bioware has related to the game. If not, a random ad is placed. So your content is about Mass effect, there are no ads, an ad about healthcare might be placed? Which has Zero relevance to your viewers, leading to less clicks.

I think that many users would not like having an ad embedded directly within a post or on the side of the forum, I like the way they have it planned out, the 2 box ads at the bottom looks nice.

Allow me to blame it on the fact I had too much sleep last night (about 16hrs) and with that, I feel awful - worse than if I had a hangover. But yeah lmao

I don't understand your argument. I have given evidence to why ads should be placed inside content. Your argument is because it looks nice in the footer?
Ads btw generate very little revenue for us little guys. Only proboard would benefit from ads on multiple sites. That strategy is very hit or miss like I pointed out.

I don't exactly understand why you would want a sidebar ad facing you every time you read a post with ( I mean an ad embedded in a post ) Proboards uses unobtrusive advertising which I very much appreciate. I think ad's at the top and bottom are fine ( and I especially like the new setup )

Proboard ads are intrusive!
Not that I have a problem with it, but you cannot argue they are not! They offer Zero Revenue to a FREE or Ad free account, they sit right above the fold and footer, leaving random ads to display.
Go ad free on your forum and tell me how much revenue you have made after 2 months, using the same ad positions.

Hi guys,
This isn't the place to argue for arguments sake. Please review our forum rules linked at the top. We do not plan to place the ads in the posts, our plan is described in detail in the original post.
Thanks

((( Psst. VS Admin I have a weird glitch going on here. I have not even posted on this thread nor do I have it bookmarked, yet I keep getting email notifications for this thread. (I did read the first post and think all is cool. No need to read more.) I don't want to turn off ALL of my notifications just to keep this one thread from sending me out another. Don't know what to do. )))

In regards to this thread, I'll just have to see when I get the chance. When the ads were on the thread list page, I always seemed to get an increase in lag. I'm wondering if that lag will increase or decrease with this change.

Lynx VS Admin Nope, never was bookmarked. I came back in here when I posted last just to see if I accidentally did. Nope. I was getting a notification for every post... probably since I found it earlier this afternoon. Deleted well over half dozen emails for this thread alone. I'm not upset, just wasn't sure if anyone else was getting this as well. Maybe it will resolve it's self by morning. I will just wait and see. Thanks guys. It's late. I need some sleep. You guys sleep well.

@synthtec, PB once experimented with giving forums the option to place the top banner ad between the first and second posts in a thread, effectively doing what you're suggesting. It was not well-received. As it turns out, people don't like having content interrupted by ads. Crazy.
