Hi guys and gals. I recently bought a printer (strangely never owned one before until now, weird right?!). It's wifi enabled, and everything else I have tried and tested so far has printed fine, but this one specific PDF document just won't print. It sticks/crashes on "printing" and then just queues for ages, then finally vanishes from the list. If I look at info on the PDF it says "Permissions" and has a tick next to Copy, Print, and more. So that to me indicates it SHOULD print, yet I have no idea why it wont. It's in colour: green, orange and black. I have also tried monochrome print and grayscale, yet nothing. It's not a sensitive document, so if anyone is willing to test it for me I'd appreciate it. The file is just for my local council's site, showing me when I need to put my bins out (yay grown up stuff lol). Waste Collection - Monday.pdf (777.61 KB) Like I say, other stuff prints fine, colour or B&W so I have no idea what to do/try, so anything you can think of is much appreciated. It's a HP Deskjet 3684 and I am using Windows 8.1 if that helps or is relevant at all
My printer light comes on as if it's TRYING to print, but ont he printer it says 0, and I think it should say 1. My wifi connection is full on the printer screen, so that isn't an issue. No paper is blocked/jammed because if I cancel the pdf attached, i can then print other documents instantly.

It took an unusually long time for it to go to my printer, so I cancelled it. Even in grayscale it took a long time.
There's the option to convert it to a word document. Have you tried doing that and then print from the word document?

That's all it does for me; says "queued for print" but I'm glad it's not just me though. I couldn't see an option to convert it using "Reader" (I did try save as, but then even though it had a dropdwn option, it was only a pdf in it). SO my next best thing was to "open with" and I chose Corel Paintshop Pro, which worked, and I tried printing, and that worked perfectly, instantly - no delay at all (ok maybe a second). Thanks ♥ ℒʊ√ ♥ for testing for me, I do appreciate it. If you or anyone can can think of any possible causes for why it has a huge delay, or rather just wont print even though it should, that'd be great.

If I right click I see no option to do so. I only see to open with: Reader, Avast Safe Zone, or Corel Luckily I only needed it printing the once, to have it handy, but it's still one of those things that's just annoying me cos it should work lol

Stinky666 , I know it's not my printer.
I just completed a 2017 calendar for our city.
Photos, ads and text. 51 PDF files. And they all printed out fine.
I was going to suggest compressing the file here, but it still maintains 79% of the original weight.
And that's very odd. Usually they reduce down to 1 to 2% of their original weight ~ as all of my 51 files did.
To answer your question about the word document, on the left side, there are options offered. One is to convert to Microsoft Doc.

I've converted to a .jpeg, Stinky666 .
You can save it to your computer and trying printing this out.

Stinky666 definitely something up with the file itself. Downloaded on my drive it shows as 780 KB. Just this morning I was working with a 5-page PDF that was 848 KB in had pictures on each page. In comparison I don't think a single page should be that large. Most likely it's the logo or something graphic related that is blowing up when parsed for printing. I've encountered a similar bloating in PDFs before and it's usually graphic related. LOL like someone takes a full page logo, and resizes it on the page, rather than resizing in a graphics program and using the proper size on the finished doc.

Being a local council that's probably cut spending in key area's while maintaining a massive budget in IT they have more than likely as cott states taken an image and not correctly re-sized it.

My Canon Pixma 2520 (USB, not wifi) printed it with no problem nor delay. On a hunch, I rebuilt it, expecting to find the integrity of the file was compromised, but that didn't happen. The rebuild did manage to naturally cut the file size down to about 1/3 of what it was, which is telling. I also tested the new file in the online compression tool ♥ ℒʊ√ ♥ used, and could only get it down to 40% under extreme compression, which is also telling. The data written to the original file was sloppy, I have no doubt, but whether it was a write error on the part of the application used to render the file or a secretary that just didn't know what they were doing (read: couldn't/wouldn't optimize before exporting) remains a mystery. I do love a good digital mystery, but I'm not invested enough to dig through 3/4 of a million bytes with a hex editor looking for errors. Now, why wouldn't it print? It's likely some sort of memory or data conflict issue derived from the file name (perhaps the dash), file header data, or actual file data. Something with this file is creating a hangup and cannot be processed by the printer. The specifics can only be speculated about at this time. Your HP printer might handle the device memory in a way that's different from my Canon. Any corrupt/sloppy data might be getting "lost" (corrupted) in the wifi signal's header data that isn't an issue over USB. ♥ ℒʊ√ ♥ never said anything about her printer setup, so that's kind of an unknown wildcard. As for what can/could've been done to fix it: - You could have first tried changing the file name. That's probably not something anyone really thinks of so a person can be forgiven for overlooking that. I'm sure I wouldn't have thought of that if I were in your position, and probably would have tried exporting and converting and everything under the sun before I'd even look at the file name.
- Print it as an image from within Reader. Click "Print" and then "Advanced" in the print dialog window that opens. Tick "Print as Image" and go from there. This will send the file data as an image instead of the more complex PDF markup. This very well [might solve the issue from the get-go, depending on how awful the original file's data is... or if the file name was still in conflict.
- Recompile the PDF.
As I said, I did recompile the PDF, but I'm not in a position to test it. I mean, it prints, but so did the original. I've attached it if anyone is curious and wants to test it. Should anyone do so, I'd recommend trying it as-is and then renaming it to exclude non-alphanumeric characters if the first attempt fails to print. Waste Collection - Monday Rebuild.pdf (282.28 KB)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm glad it isn't just me, my printer or my PC having the issues and it is doing it for others too. Derek‽ , I have tried a name change for my original file, cutting it down just to "Monday.pdf" and it does the exact same. I tried your recompiled version, that won't print either, so I also tried changing its name too, to "RebuildMonday.pdf" and that is not working either. I see nothing in my Reader to print as image. I've attached some images of exactly what I see: (Reader app for Windows 8.1 is what I use) This is just after right clicking to get the options up at the bottom - I also clicked on "More". Once "Print" is selected - the queued document is me trying this one, it's been trying for 10mins so far lol. This is the first lot of "basic" settings. This is after choosing "more settings" This is the "save as" option. I can't change from .pdf extension on the right hand side - nothing happens if I select it to try change.

Oh, you're using the Microsoft-developed Reader app that comes with 8. I assumed by "Reader" you meant Adobe Reader.
I don't know that printing as an image is even possible in that app.

Apologies, I think it would yes, since when I opened with Paintshop Pro and printed as an image from there it did. Can't try just yet though, have moved all my bedroom around currently, and unplugged most things ready for my new bed delivery. Oh, you're using the Microsoft-developed Reader app that comes with 8. I assumed by "Reader" you meant Adobe Reader. I don't know that printing as an image is even possible in that app. I have got Adobe Reader now, I swear I have searched for it before but it must have searched the app store, and given me reader. This looks much better though than that "Reader" app. Will try it when I reconnect everything later/tomorrow
