So you know how there's a notification bubble that comes up by the "Messages" button when we have a new unread message? I'd like to have that same bubble come up when someone clicks on my "Chatroom" button to reflect the number of users in the chatroom. Perhaps it can be timed so that a bubble stays on for 5 minutes every time it has been clicked. If 15 people go into the chatroom, I'd want to little bubble to have a 15 on it given that they've all entered at similar times and the 5 minute timeout period isn't over, I don't think there's a way for ProBoards to detect whether or not the member stays in the chatroom so an automatic timeout is probably best. Thanks a lot! The same notification bubble that's showing on "Profile" tab too.

Anyone? Know if this is even doable? I've decided to put the shoutbox in my chatroom. Maybe the bubble can show the number of messages that has been posted in the shoutbox?

What chatroom service are you using? If they make that information public/we can grab it, I think it's possible... but I'd have to look at the service/code. Otherwise we could try to collect how many users are viewing that page (I am not sure if custom pages come with this information, but boards do? So maybe make it a board instead of a page and just strip the content). The number of messages in the shoutbox won't really be helpful since the messages are deleted when new ones come in, so it would be the same number each time. Let me know if that makes sense...

Thanks for the response Smangii! I was using AddonChat (Java Version). Creating a hidden board sounds like a good idea!

So, does anyone know how I can take the data from users in a board and display that number as one of those notification bubbles on the chatroom button?

Like most data on PB, I think that particular info is made available only on certain pages where it is needed, the $[board] variable would not for example present itself on a page where a user's profile was being displayed since it would not have any context in that area. Since the $[board.num_viewing] would not be available on every page then using it to globally display its info on the navbar would be hit or miss depending on what page you are on. It should be noted that the num_viewing information is not included in the board metadata made available to plugins. The addonChat service used to have a room stats code you could place on the forum which showed among other things how many were currently connected to the chat (I could be confusing this feature with another service) but I think that particular feature is no longer available since the upgrade to addonChat X but Greg from addonChat might be able to give a more accurate answer here.

Oh I don't mind if it only shows on the homepage. So are you saying that since we can't access it in a plugin that we can do this? I do have the Java version of chat and the who's online counter but it's in my forum info and stats box. I'd like to display that info on the bubble but don't think it's possible.
