That "[/a]" before the "[/img]" in the above image appears to be user input error, someone is likely pasting or typing in bbcode instead of just an image url, either causing Proboards to close the tag prematurely or has entered a premature closing tag directly. With a promptable input field this user confusion would not occur since the input would be validated and the user presented with a "try again" error. This is reason I cautioned against inner BBCode not being promptable, some people get easily confused even with plain words saying "img url goes here"

That " Well that's odd because proboards is interpreting the extra [ / a] tag not the user Also I can't even quote your post correctly without proboards ruining the [/quote] tag

There should be no extra [/a] tag unless whatever is coming before it is causing Proboards to prematurely close the tag. For example, if I did [u][i]abc[/u]d[/i] (notice the "i" should close first and then the "u" but it is closing in the wrong order) Proboards will attempt to fix it by closing the inner tag: [u][i]abc[/i][/u]d[/i]
and you end up with TWO "[/i]" and this is what I am seeing in that image.

But I promise you Chris that the [\img] tag screws up the proboards interpreter. Can you try using a custom bbcode tag that isn't using a pre existing bbcode tag like [ a] [cimg] GGG [/cimg] [/ a]

The point I am making here is whatever is being put where it says "insert image url here" by the user is most likely what is causing the premature decapitation. If instead of replacing "insert image url here" with an actual url like"https://imgur/booyah.png" the user misunderstands and instead inserts "[img]https://imgur/booyah.png[/img]" then that would probably cause the anchor to be prematurely closed prior to encountering that (now) second [/img]. It is not something to be "fixed" in that case except by the user editing it properly or making it promptable so whatever they put in can then be checked before it is added but as I said promptable is not doable on inner bbcode in the plugin. I specifically mentioned that for a reason.

I really dont believe this is user error since the [/img] tag breaks the bbcode on proboards support as well. But I haven't looked at oreos forum.

Nothing has changed on the Proboards side and definitely not in the plugin coding which has not been updated in quite some time so if there is a change it is either through configuration or process. The clue that it could be user error is the V5 version of the IMG tag dropped the outdated ending image tag ([/img]) for the more html-esque tag requiring no closer and the image posted by @joecool111 shows an IMG tag with a style attribute meaning it is the newer style tag and also meaning that at least one bbcode conversion has already occurred (someone flipped from preview to bbcode then back for example) or they input something that led to the eventual orphaning. In either case, the presence of an [/img] in the picture indicates that the convertor didn't like what was there and made a change resulting in orphaned closer tags.
An alternate explanation would be the change from the plugin configuration example I gave which used an actual url between the old school IMG tags (which PB will convert to the newer style once it hits the convertor) so it could very well be that by changing that config to a placeholder of "enter image url here" or by the user inputting an url that might not be considered a valid url the convertor tosses that out when the user flips to bbcode (or vice versa) then back resulting in orphaning the closing tag. The process in that case was changed since the user used to change the url to something valid prior to switching tabs and may now be switching tabs prior to entering a valid url. And in that case the "fix" for that would be for the user to modify their process back and once again change the url prior to invoking a conversion or configure the plugin to use the newer IMG style tag so the impact of a conversion is not as great with the downside being the newer style tag is a bit more "confusing" to manually edit and any placeholders used in the src will be sanitized if it doesn't resemble a valid image url.

That code would flip as the page loads but what I am talking about is clicking the button to add the bbcode to the typing area then flipping to the other tab before providing an url to replace the placeholder text that was left in place of an actual url. A simple experiment would be to add the following to a blank post then flip back and forth between tabs and see which one survives the ordeal still intact:

[img]YOUR IMAGE URL GOES HERE[/img]
