I need a little help, please.
I made the changes above and all went fairly well. There were 2 things I noticed that needed a little tweaking, but I thought that maybe changing the forum width back to whatever it was to begin with might help that. So, I set it to 90% in the Visual Editor and the Menu Bar went bonkers. I imported a recent backup and recovered, but now I need to know how to set the Forum Width back to default (which I think had been 90%) in a way that won't mess things up.
A further complication at the moment is that when I try to export the theme after successfully removing the Sticky Menu Bar to save it as a backup without it (which needs to be done again from the recovered backup), I get a ProBoards Server error. But I can deal with that later, once I know how to set the Forum Width back to default. I like to save backups after each change I make. Got that part done.
Does 90% Width sound right to you? Could have been 80%. I don't remember.
- Would it be safer to do that with CSS somewhere?
- My thought now would be to uninstall the Sticky Menu Bar code, export that to save it, then get the Forum Width back to default, export that to save it, and then proceed with the code you gave me again in a Copy of a successful Width change. Does that sound like a good plan?
Sorry for another nightmare! I was lucky enough to recover from mine.

Sorry for another nightmare! I was lucky enough to recover from mine. 1. Yes, 90% sounds good and that's the width of Proboards. 2. Not sure what you mean by safer to do that css somewhere. 3. Not sure why you want to export stuff. The sticky menu bar is easy to reinstall if it would come to that and exporting something just to save the width doesn't make sense to me. I mean you can just copy the wrapper template and save in a post on your site if you are concerned. No need for exporting and all that jazz. I work on templates constantly and have yet to use the export/import feature. lol The most important part to getting this to work properly on your site is getting the wrapper template back to default and looking at your site, there is no reason you can't just set it back to default (The wrapper template only) as the only changes you made were to accommodate the sticky menu bar AND the other thing equally important is making sure you remove the sticky bar css in your style sheet. Resetting the wrapper template to default won't change any of the colors. And the menu bar will go wonky if you don't install everything. The css contains the styles need to make the menu right again. If you are worried about messing up the theme showing to members/guests, create a new theme, add your banner, set the width and then do the steps I told you to do so you feel comfortable doing it on your default theme. (You'll need to go to your profile and switch to the new theme to see the changes.)

First, I did uninstall the Sticky Menu Bar by the method you described. That worked well. I did check to see that worked as it should. Then, because I couldn't make a backup then, I followed your instructions and got all of your code installed. Everything was good except that there were two things that I noticed that needed a little work. That's when I set the Width to 90% with the Visual Editor. And that's when the Menu Bar went wonky. Your code had been working up to that point, with the two minor exceptions.
One exception was that the right side portion of the Menu Bar that holds Welcome and Logout wasn't the same size as the Menu Bar itself. It was scrunched in to the left near the center of the bar and a little bit lower than the rest of the bar. The other thing was that the Participated Button that was added to the Control Bar (I think you call it. I was told to call it the Action Bar) had the CSS colorings from the one on the Nav Tree. I thought we agreed that it should not have this, and that it should have the same colors as Action and Search. Other than that, I didn't notice anything else. The code seemed to work correctly except for that.
When I edited the Forum Width with the Visual Editor, that's when the Menu Bar got taller, and all of the button titles (like Home, Forum, etc.) were stacked on top of each other on the far left side, outside of the buttons themselves. I've seen the Visual Editor make what I call Global changes that were not intended before, and it looks to me like it happened again. This is why I would like to know where to change the Forum Width in the section of CSS that controls that, rather than use the Visual Editor again for this.
I have the Sticky Menu Bar code uninstalled again now, and the forum looks and works like it should. That is, it's as though the Sticky Menu Bar had never been installed. The Control Bar (Action Bar) scrolls with the page, and the Participated Button is no longer there. The Menu Bar looks and works like it should, as though nothing had ever been done to it. But to comment on your reply, I have run into enough problems with the Visual Editor that I developed the habit of making backups via exports to save successful work up to the point of making new changes. It may not be necessary, but it certainly saved me this time. I made a Copy of it to work with this time. I figured out how to do that after having the tar scared out of me. LOL
So, if your advice is to use the Visual Editor again to change the forum width to 90%, I'll try it again, but this time I'll try it before installing your code. I'd just be more comfortable making the width setting change to the one and only area of CSS that controls it. This is because there have installed modifications that are working fine now (one of which was custom-made for me here like this one) and I don't want to lose them. This is also why I make backups. I hope this explains it.

I hope this explains it. It never fails that there are bugs to work out when doing something like this. I understand about being nervous about losing things. You do whatever makes you feel comfortable but I'd sure feel a lot more comfortable if you were doing it on a new theme first or a test site so we could work out these bugs without worrying about members seeing it messed up . lol I set my forum to 90% and I have no squished welcome so I have no idea why yours isn't acting right. (I only checked on FF and Chrome) I'd most likely have to actually see it on your site to offer a fix. But instead, why don't you save your whole wrapper template in notepad or in a post on your site or download it (whatever you prefer) and paste in mine just to be sure we are working from the same thing: <!DOCTYPE HTML> $[tag.html.open] <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>$[title] | $[forum.name]</title> $[head] </head> <body> {if $[maintenance_mode]} <div class="maintenance-header"> {if $[can.disable_maintenance]}<p>Finished with maintenance? $[disable_maintenance_link].</p>{/if} </div> {/if} <div id="wrapper"> <header> <div id="banner-container" role="banner"> <h2 id="banner"> $[forum.title] </h2> </div> <a id="navigation-skip" href="#content" accesskey="s" class="aria-hidden" title="Skip Navigation">Skip Navigation</a> <a href="#" accesskey="d" title="Open Menu" onclick="proboards.hotkeys.activate(Keys.d); return false;"></a> <div id="navigation-menu" class="ui-helper-clearfix"> <div class="nav1"> <ul role="navigation"> {foreach $[navigation.menu]} <li> <a{if $[navigation.menu.active]} class="state-active"{/if} href="$[navigation.menu.href]"{if $[navigation.menu.accesskey]} accesskey="$[navigation.menu.accesskey]"{/if}> $[navigation.menu.name] {if $[navigation.menu.notification.total]} <div class="tip-holder" onclick="window.location='$[navigation.menu.notification.href]'; return false;"> <div class="tip-number">$[navigation.menu.notification.total]</div> <span class="tip"></span> </div> {/if} </a> </li> {/foreach} </ul> <p id="welcome"> {if !$[current_user.is_member]} Welcome Guest. {if $[login_link] || $[register_link]} Please $[login_link]{if $[login_link] && $[register_link]} or {/if}$[register_link]. {/if} {else} <span>Welcome $[current_user.name].</span> $[logout_link] {/if} </p> </div> </div> </header> $[participated_threads_link] {if $[navigation.tree]} <div id="navigation-tree"> $[navigation.tree] </div> {/if} $[header] <div id="content" role="main"> {if $[notice]} <div class="container"> <div class="title-bar"><h2>$[notice.title]</h2></div> <div class="content pad-all cap-bottom"> $[notice.message] </div> </div> {/if} $[content] $[shoutbox] </div> $[footer] </div> {if $[is_mobile_browser]} <br /><p class="center">Switch to the $[mobile_switch_link].</p> {/if} </body> </html>

You mentioned custom things you have made that you are afraid you might lose. Is it something I should be aware of that affects the main page? Looking at your site, I don't see anything but maybe I'm missing it? As far as the "Participated" being the right colors, I thought I had the right theme color variables in there but I guess not. Sorry. I'm having a hard time finding which ones are the right ones so back to the drawing board on that. I'll be working on that as soon as I get done with this post. Not sure if you will give it another try or do you want to wait for me to find the right theme color variables for the Participate button?

Before you go digging too deep, let me set the width back to 90% and try again. Where would I find that in CSS? In the Forum Wrapper, or what?
EDIT: Never mind. I found it in the CSS Style Sheet on line 59. I'm moving on to try your code again.
BTW, I'm using IE11 under Windows 10.

BTW, I'm using IE11 under Windows 10. For the record, I never go into the default css and edit directly there. If I can't find where to change it in the visual editor I just add the changes to the bottom of my style sheet. I found I often forget what I changed in the default but luckily, the #wrapper is not easily confused so I get why you went that route. I cannot find the right background and text color so it picks up theme colors for the "Participated" button so it is the same as the select/action drop down next to it. I went through my visual editor and changed every color I could find hoping to target the select and action buttons knowing if I could change those colors then it would appear in my style sheet. But the visual editor changed the search button and there is a different color for the next/prev on the right side but nothing would change the select/action drop downs. Also viewing via view element shows no background or text color so I'm assuming it is inheriting a background and text color from somewhere but I have no idea what it is inheriting it from. If I were a savvy coder like the red names (Admin) or Chris, Wormo, Peter, etc. I'd know probably exactly how to find it but I'm not them, unfortunately. I even put my whole style sheet in notepad and did a search for anything with a white background (ffffff) and only 5 things showed up and none of them were for backgrounds, so I'm not sure what to do for that aside from just enter the hex color in there. Oh forgot to say, checked my test site in IE (11) and Edge and all looks fine. lol, I keep thinking of things I want to add. I simplified the styling off that participated button making to more straightforward and will replace it in my previous post but currently, I just have the background hex color in it.

This is why I don't think starting with a fresh theme can't help me. My theme has a lot of color changes that a new unchanged theme won't show.
I'm still working on the code you've already given me in a Copy of my theme. I'll come back to tell you how it went.
As to changing the width, I found this...
www.proboards.com/admin-guide/themes-styles/changing-forum-width
EDIT: Something is happening that has me confused/perplexed. The Copy of my theme that I try working on is obviously set to 90% Width, but neither the Visual Editor, CCC Style Sheet, nor the Theme Creator indicate that. All three of them show 100%. And when I edit in the new code you've given me, it doesn't work. It's like I haven't done anything at all. Somehow, the editing that I'm doing isn't being applied to the active theme.
There are 4 of them now. My original restored from backup, a Copy I'm working with, the copy that fouled up, and a new unchanged theme. I set one to default and make sure the others are unchecked, so what am I doing wrong?
The one that is displayed as 90% is called Test VUF, but all indications are 100%. One that is displayed as 100% is called Good, and all indications are 100%. One that is displayed as 100% is called Vapers United Forum, and all indications are 100%. This one is fouled up. The new one displays as 90%, and indications are 100%.
This is crazy!!!

Please see the edited post above. Make sure you are editing the right theme. If you haven't changed your profile to show that theme, when you go to the css style sheet or templates, it'll automatically select what you have set in your profile. And of course, changing your profile to that theme affords you to actually view the changes. I know I'm telling you basic stuff but I know me and sometimes I forget the basic stuff so maybe you did too?

Never mind. I deleted the others and am working on only the one now. I'll save backups as I go as per my habit. I already saved it without the Sticky Menu Bar with that one set to 90%, so I'm proceeding from there.

For the record, changing the default to a different theme does nothing but show that theme to guests visiting your site. It won't change to that theme when working on templates or the style sheet unless you manual select that theme in the drop down. You won't see those changes unless you set that theme in your profile. (Profile, Edit Profile and the the settings tab and find the drop down. Viewing your site now, your menu is broke apart. Makes me think there is a left over closing div in there that should have been removed. But I'll wait to see if you are done with everything.

Thanks. I'll try to figure that out later. OK, I see now.
Here are the results that I could not show you earlier today. The forum is set to 90% Width now...
And zoomed in...
Stickied...
And zoomed in...
So you can see that they are working pretty well. There's just a little that still needs attention, as I'm sure your nightmares have advised you.
But seriously, I think it's great for a first attempt. And the forum is still open to you if you want a better look.

I saw that menu problem and mentioned it in my previous post. Did you replace your forum wrapper totally with mine? I'd highly suggest you do that so we can rule that out or in as a problem. Also your comments, you need to make sure there are equal spaces on either side, not that it has anything to do with your problem but this... <!-- End mods for Sticky Menu Bar and Participated Button in Action Bar --> should be this... <!-- End mods for Sticky Menu Bar and Participated Button in Action Bar --> Edit: Vapers United , I'm going to have to go offline real soon. I'm totally confused why your forum is doing that. I was trying all kinds of things on my test site to replicate what you are getting and couldn't get it to do that but now I jacked up my site but in a different way. lol I'm fiddling with it a bit more before I go offline.I'm really sorry. This was rougher than I expected it to be for you. I couldn't sleep so I got back at it. Try this css instead of what I gave you: /*Participate button in control panel*/ #part{display: inline-block;position: relative; float: left;font-size:100%;border-width: 1px; .rounded-corners(3px);padding: 4px 6px 6px 6px; color:#000000; background-color: #ffffff; } /*scroll and the fixed menu bar*/ .f-nav1{ z-index: 9999; position: fixed; top:0px; margin:0 auto; width:89%; } /*#navigation-menu {padding:0px;width:1215px;}*/ /*adjust the nav bubbles*/ #navigation-menu div.tip-holder { position: absolute; top: 0px; right: -6px; display: inline-block; } #welcome{margin-top:6px;position:relative;right:16px; } #navigation-menu a { position: relative; } #navigation-menu ul, #navigation-menu ul li { float: left; } #navigation-menu ul li a { display: inline-block; padding: .60em .75em; color: @nav_bar_button_color; font: @nav_bar_button_font; text-decoration: @nav_bar_button_decoration; text-shadow: @nav_bar_button_shadow; background: @nav_bar_button_background; line-height: 24px!important; } #navigation-menu ul li:hover a { color: @nav_bar_button_hover_color !important; font: @nav_bar_button_hover_font; text-decoration: @nav_bar_button_hover_decoration !important; text-shadow: @nav_bar_button_hover_shadow; background: @nav_bar_button_hover_background; line-height: 24px!important;height:24px; } #navigation-menu ul li a.state-active { color: @nav_bar_button_current_color !important; font: @nav_bar_button_current_font; text-decoration: @nav_bar_button_current_decoration !important; text-shadow: @nav_bar_button_current_shadow; background: @nav_bar_button_current_background; line-height: 24px !important; }
/*Needs to be about 10px more than your menu height due to the bubble*/ .container>.control-bar { top: 40px !important;width:99.9%;border-right:1px solid black; }
I think on your site (not on mine though) something made it read like you had two menus so I reset everything back to the #navigation-menu instead of .nav1. I think that will fix it for you. I should have known better but for some reason doing it that way before didn't work for me but on my test site now, it's just fine and I also did it on your site via the view element and your site was fine too. (Keep in mind, changes on view element only shows for me and is gone when the page is refreshed and it is nothing permanent, just in case you didn't know. Just a nice way for web designers to test bug fixes without actually changing their style sheet)

Good Morning, and thanks for everything! Sorry you couldn't sleep. This tells me how dedicated you are to your work and I really appreciate that!!! You have nothing to apologize for!!! I'm sorry it's been difficult. You asked me... The biggest thing I'm concerned about is called Avatar Banners, but this deals with the Mini Profiles, so I don't think it should effect the main page.
I tried your Forum Wrapper and it made no difference, so I put mine back. I did change the comment to what you suggested it should be.
Your new CSS fixed everything except two very minor things. Maybe they are related to the Forum Wrapper JS that still uses nav1...
<script type="text/javascript"> jQuery("document").ready(function($){ var nav = $('#navigation-menu'); $(window).scroll(function () { if ($(this).scrollTop() > 262) { nav.addClass("f-nav1"); } else { nav.removeClass("f-nav1"); } }); }); </script> Here are some screenshots.
Normal page without scrolling down...
It looks to me that the Control Bar is extended by 1px, maybe 2px.
Stickied...
The Control Bar has the left border line here, but the Menu Bar is 6px too wide on the right side.
I have a long day away from home today so I'll get back with you some time after 3:00PM Central Standard Time. Thanks again, T!!!
