Hey
lucky1080 I'm an anime fan but I've never seen One Piece, so apologies if what I'm going to say here flies in the face of canon...
I like the experience and the techniques idea but I think my confusion/lack of clarity is where the two interconnect. In a practical sense I mean...
So, here's how I read your instructions about the two and where they get a little muddy for me...
Experience is gained through posting. Quantity of posts gets you some. Quality of posts gets you more.(( SOMEHOW someone is going to quantify quality? Is this a staff member? Do you do this based on style, or syntax, or lack of typos? Is it about choice of vocabulary or is it just going to be reliant on one persons subjective opinion on what is good writing and what is bad? Not sure how you're planning on making this work. ))
Experience is calculated in numbers.(( Not gonna lie, I have NO IDEA what those numbers mean. I would first ask, are they related to the number of threads/posts you've made? Because if so there's some levels in there that NO ONE is gonna get to. And I don't understand why they are "out of" something. 100/150? What does that even mean when the second number increases with each level as well as the first? Why not just have each level either be numberless - after all, the numbers don't seem to actually relate to posts or particular quantifiable data, OR have it be that the top experience level is, say 5,000 and all the rest get you closer to that total: 10/5000, 50/5000, 200/5000... let people see how they are improving/getting closer to the top ))
At certain Experience levels you then become entitled to one (or more) new Techniques.(( Which I assume will somehow be "claimable" by a member when they have enough experience? Example Techniques are listed next to each level but by calling them examples this indicates that there are more and that there should be a list somewhere? ))
As an added side note - these topics aren't particularly newcomer friendly with regards to those who don't know One Piece. I have no idea what devil fruit is or what logias are and, while I appreciate you might be only wanting seasoned One Piece fans to join your site, this kind of language means that it's sometimes hard for me to grasp what each of the techniques mean or what you are trying to explain. So, sorry if I've missed the point on some of this.
If you are wanting a complete overhaul or readjustment of this system, here is how I would do it (with my very limited knowledge of what you're trying to do - so again sorry if this is totally wrong...)
1. Experience is gained by posting. Full stop. You can adjust this to make it better quality posting but stating that only IC board posts count (to avoid the rapidfire OOC posting) and/or that only posts over say... 100/200 words count. Therefore ensuring that only the substantial posts are going to count towards Experience. I think that this is, realistically, the only way to moderate and adjust the experience gain based on quality. Anything more subjective risks coming across as favouritism or will get you messages like - "I'm the next Nabokov! You just don't get my style!"
2. Use the Rankings system in Proboards, or your own claiming system, to define the Experience Levels based on those posts. So the "numbers" simply become the number of (eligible posts) a user has made. I.e. You need 50 posts to be X
Experience Level.
3. List all of the techniques, in a single list and simply specify what Experience Level someone must be at to use it. I.e. -
Name of Technique: Water Spout.
Description: Sucking in a mouthful of sea water and spitting it at your opponent.
Experience Level Required: Novice II... or whatever.
If you want to quantify how many of these techniques someone can have, then I would attach a money system to their Posts. I.e. every post over 100 words gets you 10 points. Every post over 200 words gets you 25 points. And so on. And then add a purchase cost to the Technique. So, someone might be a Super-Duper Elite or whatever, but if they've spent all their points then they can't get the next Technique.
This last bit also adds an element of choice and customisation for each member. They might decide to have lots of lower ability skills and have their character be a jack of all trades, or they might want to save up, forcing their character to be a bit useless for a while but then managing to claim a hugely powerful attack (which would then be the only weapon in their arsenal).
Also - on a total side note... it seems weird to me that the Experience levels jump from Basic to Veteran. How about a Skilled in there somewhere or something? That seems like a weird jump...
Once again, I don't know One Piece and I don't know what you're trying to achieve here, but, based on sheer pragmatics and the admin required by your staff to pull off a full experience/attacks system, the above would be my advice on how to implement it.
Hope this helps!
