I'm wondering if anyone here has ever owned any stock share? If so which companies have you invested in, how much has it helped you?

I don't own any stock, Ken, but my 401k is based in mutual funds which are mostly stocks.

I don't own any stock, Ken, but my 401k is based in mutual funds which are mostly stocks. Same here. 401K and 403B. I have 3 of them from different jobs. The best time to get started is when you're young, so that it has time to grow. I have been doing so for years and now have about a quarter of a million out there waiting for my retirement.

I own stock, but the dividends are low and the overall yields have been too poor to afford the lock or barrel.

I don't own any stock, Ken, but my 401k is based in mutual funds which are mostly stocks. My IRA is based on mutual funds as well. I have two of them set up and they do okay. I do own some separate stock in Apple because it was low a few years ago and I got a good deal. Plus, it was a down year before they were releasing a new phone. I do okay in it...modest gains each year.

I own stock in my 401K, but I have also bought some individual shares of stock via the Robinhood app. I own a few shares of Apple, Ford, SiriusXM, and Nike right now. I have made about $500 thus far (pending I sale it of course).

I use Stash. It gives me useful advice, and I like it so far. I'd be happy to share my referral link with you if you'd like!

I decided a couple of months ago that I probably ought to plan my finances a little better, and as part of that now have some (currently modest) investments. I happened across a FIRE (Financial Independence to Retire Early, I think) discussion, and while it didn't really apply to me due to low earnings, it led to skimming through a couple of different blogs including Mr Money Moustache and The Monevator. After some reading (and the realisation that my savings account was only earning me 0.2% interest) I've moved my emergency pot to the Chip app (currently getting me 3%) and my main savings to a Vanguard LifeStrategy 80% Equity fund. It's only worth a touch over a grand (although I have about £700 in cash that I need to bank and move over) and is currently down 7.12%, but I'm relying on dollar cost averaging, Brexit not making a mess of things and a multiple-decade lifespan to see me through. It won't make me rich but it should certainly help in the long run!

It won't make me rich but it should certainly help in the long run! Vanguard LS is a good choice, I've had a decent amount in the 100% fund for a few years now and have seen nice returns so you should make your 7.12% back and much more in time.
My equities portfolio is around 50% index fund, 40% managed funds and 10% stock holdings which I'm fairly happy with at the minute. I'm investing long term and patiently. I try to keep it as simple as possible so there's only one index fund, three managed funds and three individual stocks. Like pawl I'm somewhat bearish on Brexit so I have quite limited UK exposure by design - at least for the time being (around ~30% outside of the Vanguard fund). Any fellow Brits been using the Freetrade app? I'm still waiting for an Android version but would certainly be worth looking into for anyone with iOS.

Everything I read seemed to agree that the 60/40 was the best option for reward/risk, so while tempted by the 100 I still thought that I was taking a chance with the 80/20. Either way I've no fear about losing money long term, even if I do have a bad habit of checking the numbers daily! I'm also not too concerned about Brexit. While my holdings are determined by Vanguard anyway, any that are UK-based (about 20-25% of mine I think) and suffer will recover in time, and I'm constantly topping them up anyway to take advantage of lower buying prices.
