I'm a bit surprised that no other American had started a thread for this...so let me just say my heart and thoughts are with the Bush family as they lay to rest one of the Presidents of my generation. *sigh* It is difficult for me to be out-living all these great men. But, he did live a full life and lived to a great age and he now can meet up with Barbara in the after-life.

George Herbert Walker Bush was a great man, a good president, and among the elite when it comes to the role of Commander in Chief. He properly utilized the (personnel and diplomatic) resources at his disposal, set objectives, built an international coalition, set a plan into motion at the most opportune time, and had an exit strategy in place before he ever started.
He also had the most ineffective reelection campaign in US history. At the outset, he was a virtual lock for reelection, but a poorly managed campaign resulted in a loss in November of 1992.
Ave atque vale, Mr President. And thank you for your service.

Good looking dog, on the news coming in this morning, the people in charge of the arrangements have told people to just let Sully go where he wants and not to pay to much attention. President Bush will remain in state today, funderal service tomorrow.

I don't celebrate war criminals. Of course, that is your prerogative, but then why did you post that in a thread that is showing respect for someone who has died? I didn't always admire his decisions, however, no matter WHO the president is if he dies he gets my respect.

I don't celebrate war criminals. I find it disappointing that we have to say this every time a thread like this happens but memorial threads are no place to air negative views about the person.

I can’t believe you people fall for the troll post(s) every single time. Every. Single. Time. That’s why they keep happening here, you know. Weeds sprout up from the most fertile ground.
Anyway, Bush’s presidency was before I understood what that concept even meant. As a result, I never had much of an opinion about him, but I’ve learned quite a bit since his death. He strikes me as a genuinely decent man, and probably one too personally decent to hold the high office—distinct from, but not entirely unlike, McCain.
Interestingly, I think Bush lost to He-Clinton for the same reason She-Clinton lost to Trump: no new message, nothing to change, and thus no real since of urgency or passion. It’s mildly amusing that she didn’t learn that you can’t rest on your over-qualifying career record and laurels when he should have served as the perfect example of how that can go so horribly wrong for a politician.
