Hi!
Hope you all had a good Christmas, and have a happy new year when it comes around!!
Anyway. Basically, I'm setting up a roleplay forum. A lot of people that want to join it are coming from Tumblr, where it's easy to send 'asks' to respond to roleplay 'memes' to get threads started, and people interacting with each other. However, that's not as easy on proboards forums, and we're concerned that people will be too shy to interact and reach out to others, and so we're looking for a simpler method of doing so. Just a way that people can interact without actually having to drop others messages, as it can be quite daunting for some.
I absolutely adore Todge's 'poke' system, and it's almost perfect, however it leaves for a few things to be desired. I did post over on their original thread for it, but no response, so I'm posting here instead.
This might either be very simple, or extremely difficult/impossible - but I'm terrible at coding so I have absolutely no idea!
So I'm looking for something very similar. Something that would add a new tab to people's profiles, where they can access a list of custom-added 'interactions'. Clicking one would send a notification to the user, and say something like 'so and so has poked you!' and give them the option to either dismiss it, or respond with a private message so that they can start a roleplay thread from the interaction.
When clicking the option to respond, I was thinking that maybe it would take the user to a PM to start with, the title being something like '[Username] poked [username]' or something similar, so people could immediately jump off these interactions? I know that people can simply go to the user's profile and choose to privately message them from there, but I'm trying to make things simpler and more fun on my forum.
Or perhaps even, the interactions don't even have to produce a notification on the forum! Maybe they could just send an automated PM to the user, and they can choose to either respond to the PM or ignore it! I'm not sure which would be easier/simpler.
I just think this would be a nice touch for a lot of RP forums - and not just my own!
Thanks in advance!
