Does anyone else here drive for Uber? I started doing this two weeks ago and I am enjoying it.

Time for uber to die! Where I am, they are stealing jobs from the taxi industry!

Time for uber to die! Where I am, they are stealing jobs from the taxi industry! The thing is... my town has NO taxi service, and it never has. So UBER gives a safe way to travel when drunk or impaired and gets them home safely.

Time for uber to die! Where I am, they are stealing jobs from the taxi industry! Capitalism at its finest though. If I need a ride to the airport and a taxi is $50, but Uber/Lyft is only $30, why would I take a taxi? I need to save money just as much as the cab driver needs to make money. Definitely sucks, but life isn’t fair.

I'm not sure it's worth it. Uber driver pay averages to $0.84/mile (I realize they get an amount based on total time as well) and it on average it costs $0.61/mile (rounding up from 60.8 cents) to own and operate a vehicle (assuming you don't have any major repair costs).
But if you don't actually need the money and just enjoy driving and chatting with people, I suppose it wouldn't be a bad gig.

Time for uber to die! Where I am, they are stealing jobs from the taxi industry! No one stole jobs. Traditional taxi services grew complacent over the decades in which they lacked any real competition. Prices rose along with their own expenses, but the experience for customers didn’t make any substantial, positive changes. People often blame new industry giants for the loss of jobs, but nobody ever asks the more appropriate questions: why weren’t jobs retained? Why did legacy taxi services allow themselves to be undermined? Why didn’t they do more to bolster their services when they had the chance? Complacency. They didn’t want to do any of that because they didn’t think they had to. They found out they were wrong. Too bad it was a little late for the companies and their drivers. The public has decided that it’s the taxi industry that needs to die, because there are better deals to be found. Uber, Lyft, whatever the hell the other services are called—they might be the ones to pull the lever and leave taxi drivers’ feet dangling in the breeze, but make absolutely no mistake: it was the taxi industry that has been tying the noose around its own neck for a very long time.

It takes about 8 minutes to get from one side of our town to the other, so opportunities for uber drivers is pretty much nonexistent. I think we only have one taxi, too, haha.

Well in Canberra, it is uber that is dying, thanks to people finding they can't afford the ongoing and set up expenses, (like business insurance - a lot thought their standard car insurance would cover them - big mistake)!
Oh and in Canberra, uber IS stealing jobs!

Next thing you know, this could turn into the public has decided that it's the driverless vehicle industry that needs to die, because driverless Taxis, Uber, Lyft, whatever the hell the other services are called would be verging on having robotics stealing jobs from drivers. And that probably doesn't matter what the hell you're driving and who are you driving for now-a-days.
