It's a game forum, and there is a challenge where people will have to find specific things based on clues. You can just cheat with the search function.

Ah. The problem you have is, you can remove or hide the search features, but it will not ultimately stop people from using them. So, for example, you can remove the link to the search from the menu bar, and 'hide' the form on the search page, and 'hide' the input boxes for searches in boards and threads. But none of that will affect people in the mobile view, who will still be able to use the search unhindered. Or people can manipulate the page to unhide the elements. Therefore, would that be something you would want to proceed in doing?
What kind of game is it? Is it just to find hidden word(s) in specific posts, as you could, using the templates, inject words in to specific posts, which would not be searchable. If there would help. Only, you wouldn't be able to specify where exactly the words were, inasmuch as you couldn't have them 'between' other words in the post.
