code for email addresses not working with theme

Hi All

I am trying to use this code provided by Scott (Scott) to display email addresses in the member list, it works on the standard theme but not on on the shadow theme is there something that needs changing on the code or is this theme not going to work with this code.

Yes the theme is called Shadow from the theme library

the code is on the forum but only works on the standard them but not the shadow theme

Geraint , I've downloaded the theme and tested out the code from the linked support thread. After copying and pasting the code on the Shadow theme, I got the expected results where only admins can see emails in the member list.

When you copy and pasted the code, are you applying it to the Shadow theme in the layout template and not just the standard theme? Each theme has their own respected layout template which means you'll need to apply the changes to all themes you want to change one at a time.

No i did not apply it to the other theme as i started using it on the default theme, will do that tomorrow and let you know if i have any problems which im sure i wont now i know what ive done wrong.

Been playing with this for my forum as well as we prefer to control one account per user and you can only do this by email address.

I could not get it to work on our one and only theme until I changed

{if $[current_user.id] == 1}

to the boolean

{if $[current_user.is_staff]}

in both places, it seemed logical as I presume the relevance user-id being "1" meant it only worked on the owner's account, rather than mods in general.

Thanks for the pointer, shame you cannot sort on an added column though.

Your first snippet is checking to see if the current user is the root admin, whereas your second snippet is checking if the current user belongs to any Staff group. If you were looking to have that available only to the root admin, then the first snippet would be the correct one. If it did not work, then perhaps there was an error (perhaps a syntax error) somewhere else in your code that made it look like it was not working.

Sav, the variable used was intentional to only display the email addresses to the forum owner (main admin / user-1) within the context of the original thread.

FYI - unique email is not a guarantee that the member has only one account. A member may use a different email address to create an additional account on the forum.

We run dual ownership on our forum and the admin account is only used in emergency or group maintenance, so user == staff is better for us.

Never going to stop a totally fictitious application but almost all of the ones we have spotted have the same email address and could not be bothered to follow the lost password route.

I do hope the highlighted part does not imply that login credentials are being shared. If they are, that would be a violation of ProBoards Terms of Service.

This statement implies that more than one user is accessing the primary admin account, (user id =1) which is, (as Kitty Katt stated) a violation of the Proboards Terms of Service.

If this is NOT the case, then disregard the above, otherwise the original owner of the primary admin account needs to change the login password for the account, (and very probaly their email account as well).
