wildmaven your wifi at work might have imgur blacklisted as most of the stuff there is just frivolous. I never use it for anything important but for silly stuff, I tend to use it. Related: There was an article that popped up on Apple News the other day about forbidden wagers on Jeopardy. Apparently, since last year, contestants have been forbidden from betting $69, $666, $14, $88, or $1488. I can sorta see why the first two might be forbidden, but that is a bit prudish. I didn't know the last three are somehow related to neo-nazis.

Ken Jennings got away with $69 bets for so long that it just seems innocuous and played-out. Honestly, if someone made that bet today, I’d just assume it was an homage to him. Likewise, $666 would be an immature bet by a wannabe edgelord (unless it coincided with a very precise calculation), but it doesn’t have a significant meaning to most people who aren’t still stuck in the satanic panic of the ‘80s. $1488 is the whole neo-nazi shebang, so I can understand its status as verböten, but $14 and $88 separately wouldn’t raise any red flags for me. Yes, they each have a meaning, but we can’t ban every number from society on the off chance they have some arcane meaning. Perhaps the producers are concerned about a person wagering $14 one day, winning, and wagering $88 the next? $420 is a curious omission from the ban, given that it fits both into the “prudish” (an apt description) category as a drug reference and it has a tangential meaning for would-be Nazis: April 20 was Hitler’s birthday.

He almost blew it last night! That was a close game! Yes, it was! Nate made run for it, in early in double jeopardy and was leading by a huge margin. But James went into overdrive and took the lead by the end of the round. Still close going into final, though. Definitely a nail-biter.

Prior to James, the record one-day total was $77,000, set by Roger Craig.
Before Roger, the record was held by Ken Jennings with $75,000 Now, James holds all ten of the highest one-day earnings spots. His average for 27 games is $76,501. Think about that for a minute.

The King is dead. Long live the Queen. Yea saw it on the news this morning. There was some discussion as to if he was even trying. His pattern or MO of playing had changed.

I watched it. In my opinion, he didn't change a thing. The only daily double he had was on his very first selection so he could only bet $1000. Emma Boettcher kept beating him on the buzzer, late in the game. I don't think that was because he wasn't trying. I think she was just that good.
Also, he was leading by a considerable margin when Emma hit the first daily double in the second round. He had $12,600, she had $7,600. You could see it on her face when she was deciding on her wager. She knew that a moderate bet wasn't the way to go. If she was wrong, it probably wouldn't have mattered if she lost it all or bet nothing. She wasn't going to catch him unless she took a big risk. So she did, and went all-in. That was a move out of James' playbook.
She also hit the other daily double in the second round. If that had popped when James had control of the board, I reckon he would have gone big and probably secured the game for himself. But that didn't happen.
Even the contestant who ended in third place, Jay Sexton, played an excellent game after getting off to a slow start.
Bottom line: Were it not for the daily doubles, James would have had the lead going into Final Jeopardy and the game would have been his to win or lose. But the luck of when those come up (and the boldness or timidness of how they are used) is all part of the game.
Also, gracious even in defeat, James gave Emma a big high-five as soon as she won the game. You could tell he was genuinely happy for her success.
Best. Game. Evah.
