Also, gracious even in defeat, James gave Emma a big high-five as soon as she won the game. You could tell he was genuinely happy for her success. Yeah, he seems like a decent guy. The problem now is that he's very well known and how the casinos will react when he comes in may not be to his benefit.

wildmaven, I think the reception James will get at any casinos he visits will depend on the size of his bets and overall success. And also his interactions with other players. I reckon a casino can write off a few thousand a night (on average) in losses to him as PR/advertising, since he's a celebrity of sorts. But they said he was a professional sports gambler. I don't know how that works in terms of the social environment. I would guess it could all be done by telephone/credit card. idk.
In other news, Jeopardy giant killers seem to have followed a pattern. One win (when they defeat a champion), then lose the very next game. Emma broke that pattern. She looked very James-like in her domination of the board at first, but looked somewhat vulnerable later. Ultimately, she did win. And she seems to have an even temperament. So maybe she'll put together a winning streak of her own.

When I woke up the following morning, my father's first words to me were, "Stupid Jeopardy guy lost."
That's how I knew that he had lost.

He seems brilliant to me. Right?! Apparently people either loved him or hated him. I was ambivalent when he first started, but he quickly won me over. He seems to genuinely care about people. Maybe they should make him the next host if Alex can't continue.

Maybe they should make him the next host if Alex can't continue. :D I think he'd be a decent host but maybe Ken Jennings would be better if we're looking at past champions? Trebek would be a hard act to follow. Charisma with a dignified calmness. He can even appear dignified when selling life insurance with the most hideous script which insults our intelligence.* Alex has a salary of $10 million per year. (Less than Pat Sajak, which is a travesty.) Of course we wouldn't expect a new host to command the same money as Alex, so let's say around $5 million or so? The 200 airings per year are filmed in just 46 days. So a $5M salary would break down to roughly $100k per day. Nice work if you can get it. * Watch this and tell me what the difference is between the first 'p' and the third 'p'.

Anyone else following the Tournament of Champions? In the first round last week, James won his match by a runaway, going into final jeopardy with three times the total of his nearest competitor. That was on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Emma the giant killer won her match, although not by a runaway.
Semifinals start today.

Emma won today, Monday. Oh, sorry . . . SPOILER ALERT! James won on Tuesday. So the Giant and the Giant Killer will be in the final which starts tonight. The third finalist is Francois Barcomb who won his semi last night. He was the winner of the Teachers Tournament. He seems relaxed and poised. This should be great final!

Not bad. It would have been better if Francois was more of a factor.

Not bad. It would have been better if Francois was more of a factor. It seemed as if his failure in the Physics round the prior day unnerved him and he just never got his mojo back.

"... and our returning champion. A wine tasting consultant from Dowagiac, Michigan... Jennifer Quail."With eight wins and $228k, she is currently just outside the Jeopardy Hall of Fame Top-10 in two categories. Consecutive games won and Highest Winnings for regular-season play. Unlike James, she's extremely conservative with her Daily Double bets. But like James, she's knowledgeable, poised, confident, and quick with the signalling button.
