I try to avoid having naps late in the day (usually after 4:00 or so), because if I happen to fall asleep for more than an hour, I know I'll have trouble falling asleep on time that night. Tonight, I felt a little tired at 5:30 PM, so I decided to lie down for a bit. The result? And that's why I'm posting this thread well after midnight. When's the last time you regretted taking a nap (or just ended up sleeping longer than you intended)?

Oi. Not a good length of a nap, that late in the evening. THe last time I took one that long that late in the day, was about a month ago. I regretted it immediately, as I had to work the following early morning, and couldn't fall back asleep for 5 hours. I think after that, I ended up getting about 3 hours of sleep after that nap, in order to "get up" at the time I needed to typically begin getting ready.

I always feel anxious about naps for this reason. I always feel like I have to be on a strict schedule and that I can't be awake all night and sleeping during the day, even though I don't have much reason to be that strict. I think it's leftover from when I was younger doing work/school, when seeing the sun come up in the morning meant that I would be going the whole day with no sleep and it was going to be awful.

I rarely nap during the day, even when my kids were babies. It makes me feel worse too. When I wake up, I don't know what day it is, what time it is and there's an underlying feeling of dread that something's wrong, or I've forgotten something

I always want to nap but naps always make me feel 100 times worse. Ugh yes. I have to get at least a few hours or I'll just feel awful. (I've been told this is just called sleep, not a nap.) And then sometimes I wake up disoriented. One time my family woke me up for dinner as I was taking a nap after school. It was dark out, so I thought it was early morning. This confused me very much when I got out to see everyone properly dressed and eating a huge meal lmao. Reality didn't fully sink in until I'd been seated for a few minutes.

I almost always find myself nodding off at about 3 pm no matter what kind of nights sleep I had gotten. I have to force myself to go for a walk at that time of day so I don't fall asleep. If I only nap for 10 or 15 minutes I wake up refreshed, but if my nap lasts longer than that I wake up feeling like carp. I need real sleep.

I'm not a napper unless I'm sick or have been up 24+ hours. But if rest more than an hour, regardless of the time of day, then I'll be up all night.

If I take a nap any later than 10pm, I just say the heck with it and sleep until morning.

They (whomever "they" are) say that naps should either be under 15 minutes long, or over 90min in order not to mess up your rhythm. I don't take naps often, but since the earthquakes I've taken a few on the weekends. www.sleep.org/articles/how-long-to-nap/

LOL I think we should listen to our body, it knows best! Stress and shock has an impact on our bodies. We need to rest to be able to deal with what's happened and come to terms with it. You must have needed it Marian.

It's roughly 4pm now where I live and my wife is asleep on me currently. Guess we will see what happens tonight.

I used to be really bad about napping. Now, it seems to trigger my migraines frequently enough that I've all but stopped napping altogether. If I catch myself nodding off, the realization that I'm risking agony for a bit of extra sleep is enough to get me up off my tush... most of the time. It helps that it's summer and I have an energetic 10-year-old to keep me alert! It'll be harder once she's back at school, though.

I try not to take naps in the evenings mostly because I don't wake back up till morning. ^^'' I'm a pretty heavy sleeper.
