I believe it's on the decline due to more people being more open about who they are and not afraid of being judged over it. I'd assume many may not go over being afraid of how they will be accepted towards others.
If my personal friend ever reads this I do apologize but I recently had a friend go through a divorce who was religious through and through. He's told me he heard whispers of people talking about the split accusing him of cheating and such and isnt going as often anymore of it.
Maybe I'm overthinking but another factor maybe that people are also identifying themselves more as different sexualities and may also be afraid of being judged if they go.
I dont think people fear church just the people that they're around may start spreading rumors. A church maybe there to worship but people are people. Envyist backtalking backstabbers it does not matter where you go.
So I dont believe it's just one religion starting to decline I believe many are just due to acceptance.

I was made to go to church as a child, as it was just something that as a Catholic, that you did. But as I grew older, my faith in such things diminished and I began not participating in such things. I think it's natural given the generation as a whole has swung largely agnostic and atheist compared to prior generations
that's not to say I don't see the social purpose of the church, obviously, there are reasons for such. We made churhc into a lot of things that currently the younger generations don't have a great answer for to compensate for social gatherings.

Meh, I was raised in it. Had one of those fire and brimstone preachers once that terrified all the kids with gory details about Jesus' nerve endings (in vacation bible school) in the wrist having nails thru them. Spent ages 12-14 scared crapless my salvation didn't stick. I still have the fear of hell, even as an atheist.

I was never forced to attend religious services. I did go to church with my grandmother, or one of her sisters, as a child but wasn't forced to do so. My parents didn't attend services but my mother read to me from age-appropriate bible storybooks when I was a toddler. I loved the stories and the pictures but didn't take it as much more than that, I guess. I still don't attend any services as I'm not a believer and don't believe it would be right of me to insert myself into something that's so very important to those who embrace it. As I see it, each person must do what is right for them and honor the choices of others, as well.

...I still have the fear of hell, even as an atheist. A true atheist would have no fear of hell since an atheist believes there is no God thus, there no afterlife.

Yes, but I have blasphemed and that's the unforgivable sin anyway. I spent my first 19 years having it pounded into my head. It's slowly going away the more I learn about science, but brainwashing really does a number on children when you have a fire and brimstone teacher and are homeschooled in the woods by Baptists. Edit: I also don't believe in telepathy but recently had a delusion that kept me up all night thinking my mind was being read and I had to control my thoughts. Fear trumps logic.

Well, as far as you may know, with the Sunday worship said to be on the decline, a Pew study says that many Catholics don't believe the Eucharistic teaching. And that's coming from a few weeks ago. www.star-telegram.com/opinion/cynthia-m-allen/article233991967.htmlYou know, this kinda reminds me of the struggle with Catholics vs. Protestants on repentance and the forgiveness of sins, which is kinda referenced in this video of Red Dead Redemption II:

Funny, me and my wife were just talking about this yesterday. We don't practice, but my wife went to a Catholic college and even she can't think of anyone she knows who still attends on a weekly basis.
We live in the Northeast. I'm not sure if it's more of a regional thing these days.
