...to defend the draconian migrant rule change. I find this move extremely tasteless, as Ken is xenophobic like Trump and all the other officials who support him! The line change to the poem, "The New Colossus", makes no sense, as it is becoming rhymeless and tasteless and getting more hateful! I can only imagine the poem now going like this: "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp," cries sheWith silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge..."I mean, just WTF?! This racist, xenophobic move just makes me sick! www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49323324

Definition of deface transitive verb 1 : to mar the appearance of : injure by effacing significant details //deface an inscription 2 : impair 3 obsolete : destroy
Although I find it tasteless also, I have seen no plans with a google search to change the plaque, hide the plaque, or destroy or remove the plaque and beautiful inscription.

This racist, xenophobic move just makes me sick! www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49323324If that were what happened I could almost understand your reaction; however, it is NOT what has been done. If one reads the article closely, it is readily apparent that Cuccinelli added the extra words in his comments to illustrate his point, as a means of clarification. As Pearson stated above, no such alteration to the plaque has been made, nor can I find anything stating that any change to the plaque is even being contemplated. Now, if you look at the article you linked in your post, Cuccinelli stated, "That plaque was put on the Statue of Liberty at almost the same time as the first public charge [law] was passed - very interesting timing." (Emma Lazarus wrote the poem in 1883, the plaque was installed in 1903)
To what law was he referring? In the early 1880's - almost 140 years ago - the US enacted a law, The Immigration and Nationality Act. It states, in Section 212(a)(4)(A), "Any alien who, in the opinion of the consular [or immigration] officer…. is likely at any time to become a public charge is inadmissible.” It also requires that, if said persons are being sponsored, they have to have "affidavits of support" (legally binding contracts between the sponsors and the government) from those sponsors. Additionally, if the immigrant does receive welfare, the government can sue the sponsor for breach of contract (for at least 10 years) or otherwise seek to collect. (Italics and bold face mine) So whether or not one agrees with what the Trump administration is doing, the law upon which it is based has been in place for a little less than a century and a half.

I have changed the title of your post. In the future, please be careful about how you word your titles. The way it was worded was very "click baitish" and misleading.
