I've had 4 children and each birth was different. On my first, Emma (1987), I had gas and air and pethidine. My labour was so long, and she was so big (9lbs 9oz), I was scared on my second (Elisabeth)! So I opted for an epidural. Heaven! I highly recommend it! Elisabeth was 9lbs 6oz (1989). My third was Catherine (1993). She was 10lbs 6.5 oz. My goodness, she 'smarted' a bit! I got through her arrival with gas and air and reflexology. Enter Sammy Boy....my fourth child (Sam, 1996). He was a breeze. I had gas and air, but pushed it away after a bit....2 pushes and he was out! (9lbs 8oz). Giving birth is very emotional. I can cry at the drop of a hat...even now, when remembering all my children's births. When they're out, it's such a relief! I felt so proud of my efforts.....a job well done, and a little child to love and take care of. I can also remember what songs were in the charts at the time. Whenever I hear them on the radio, it takes me right back So, enough of me, please share your birthing experiences *Edit* Husbands/fathers/partners are welcome to post too

Personally, I didn't have anything. Something about how I'm not giving birth. But for our first child, the doctor insisted on the epidural and my wife didn't say anything against it. On the last two, they were premature so there was not time for any of those things, so she had them naturally.

I didn't include Caesarean as an option...as my question was directed at those who have experienced a vaginal birth. However, I'd love to hear your caesarean experiences as well

please share your birthing experiences I don't remember much about when I was birthed but apparently some dude held me up by the ankles and whacked me across the bottom. They tell me I peed on him. Serves him right!

I also have 4 kids. My first was in 1991 (daughter) and she was 7lb 3oz. I was in labour doe 36 hours and I had pethidine and gas & air. the labour was the worse pain that I had never felt pain like it. She became in distressed and I was very near to having a cesarean and I remember a lot of doctors rushing into the room but my daughter was okay and was born soon after. My second daughter was born in 1993 and weighed 7lb 4oz. She was my quickest out of all 4 and I was only in labour for 20 minutes, so different from my first. My son was born in 1995 and weighed exactly 7lb I was in labour for 4 hours and was so like his dad when he was born. I easily forgot the pain after I had him. My daughter was born in 1998 and only weighed 6lb 8oz I was about 2 weeks overdue with her so I had to have my labour induced because the doctor thought there was something wrong with her heart. I was in labour 2 hours and she was born healthy. So it's fair to say my first was the hardest

So it's fair to say my first was the hardest *Nods* Mine too. I felt really sorry for myself after her birth....I felt as though I'd been through the mill. I felt as though I'd been tortured. No human being should go through THAT!!! But that's nature, hey? Thanks for sharing Catsmother x

Why did we put ourselves through it again though CM? I will admit though, 2 of my children were 'nice surprises' Maybe it's because we are used to period pains. We know they're sometimes very painful, but we have to deal with it. Maybe us women are martyrs? LOL...in ALL walks of life!

I only had one child. After 30 hours in labour, I was begging for the epidural ... yep, begging.

Epidurals sound scary. My sister had one and she said she had to focus on breathing.

Epidurals sound scary. My sister had one and she said she had to focus on breathing. Compared to the pain of labour, it's a bloody breeze! I didn't feel the needle going in because the doc waited until I was having a contraction before he administered it. I was so 'debilitated' by the contraction, I neither cared nor felt what he was doing to my spine

Contractions can truly be hell ... so if you get a doctor who knows what he's doing .. and can administer the epidural properly ... they're a Godsend! LOL
