Can they? I suspect they can...but don't want to! Women, do you agree that men will play dumb, play up, when expected to or asked to do more than 2 things at once? I'm convinced men think women worry too much. I have no doubt men can look after a child, but I suspect that care is linear...rather than instinctual. Let the debate commence.......

I debate that this comment is sexist 😉

My husband is amazing with multitasking and loves children. Even though we have had none of our own as a couple, he has 5 children (all grown now) and I can be absolutely positive that he has no issues when it comes to multitasking while taking care of children.

Yes we can, i've done it with my kids and my grandchildren, for instance, i can be washing up, but still see my grandson crawling around behind me, even though i wasn't actually looking that way.

Ditto Look at my avatar photo of our grandsons, me and Liz have worked together over the years and we both have coped with bringing them up, the same as our son & daughter, we have been together 46 years come this Decemeber and our vows when we both got married was "For richer or poorer, better or worse..." and that means what marriage is about with children and grandchildren arriving.

I read this to my wife and she said that it sounded like me. Granted, we have our own kids, but I have been watching kids since I was a young teenager. It's easy to watch kids and multi-task. The only reason the belief is still "common" is that it makes good television fodder.

The only reason the belief is still "common" is that it makes good television fodder. And the main reason, I hazard to guess, that males don't babysit is because they'd probably get ribbed by their friends.

No, I don't know how my children survived when their mother was able to escape for some time with her family or friends and I was left in charge to prepare the meals and keep them entertained and safe.
Just lucky I guess.

My husband was very involved in the care of his (our) oldest nephew when he was a baby, as the father wasn’t around and his sister needed the help. Gender didn’t come into it. As we’ve looked after young nieces and nephews over the years I’ve been in the scene, he’s done more of the looking after than me, until recent years now they’re a bit older. It’s a bit of a dated idea that men can’t cope.
The idea of men getting ribbed for babysitting is sad, and something I hope is slowly going away. I have a few male friends who babysit nieces and nephews regularly.

I think the children will have a better chance being looked after by someone other then me period. I can't multitask....so whoever made up this thing about women being better multitasker clearly hasn't met me.

And when it comes to my kids, I don't babysit. I parent.

Babysitting or being a daddy? If I am babysitting, I am caring for someone elses child thus, I would be very linear since someone was trusting me with their child. Now, if I am being a daddy, then these would be my children, which gave me a little more wiggle room for multi-tasking such as cooking, laundry, cleaning, parenting and the worst... helping with homework. We are great multi-taskers if we aren't micromanaged.

Just lucky I guess. I laughed at this quite hard. However, I believe I can. I have my son full time, and so I have developed a sixth sense, hahaha. For real...

I prepare meals, do the laundry, clean the house, and watch the kid(s) at the same time. So, I'm obliged to say yes, not all of us men are incapable of multitasking.
