I know there have been header/footer codes created for this in the past, but I can't for the life of me track them down. I'm wanting to change the emoji "image," like the yellow face, back to the normal text version. So :) stays as :) I know I could remove the emojis entirely, but I don't want them completely absent if someone uses one, I just want it converted as plain text. Does anyone know where the heck one of those codes has gotten to? EDIT: Just adding a link to this post that Retread made a little lower down that explains what I mean far better than I did, because I made some terminology mistakes that made this post a bit misleading: support.proboards.com/post/7213251/thread Their post is a far better explanation for my issue / what I am trying to do. =3

In preparation for V6 Proboards has switched from in-house "smileys" to using the standardized "emojis" which has resulted in the profile setting which was designed to keep the "smiley" in text format and avoid them becoming images not being very effective on these new emojis. With the new emojis there are no predefined text equivalent just the just the unicode assigned to it, for example [emoji value="1f381"] would give you this . A code, if written to suppress and convert emojis to a text equivalent, would be hard pressed to come up with a text for the multitude of emojis that are now supported unless it simply converted it to the corresponding unicode which would not convey much of a text based symbolism for the corresponding emoji the way : ) used to do for primitive smiley.

Emojis are not the same as Smiles aka Smileys aka Smilies. Smiles are character strings which the system recognizes and replaces with images. For instance, on a ProBoards forum with Smiles enabled,
8-) will be replaced with:
[img alt="8-)" src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png" class="smile"] which displays as:
Emojis are special characters themselves. This:😎 Requires no intervention by the software to display as 😎
emojipedia.org/smiling-face-with-sunglasses/
The script by Peter in this post: support.proboards.com/post/7206155/thread will cause the character string for a Smile to be displayed, rather than the image. But it will have no effect on Emojis.

RetreadYou're completely correct on what I was trying to say. Not the "insert an emoji" type of thing where it's an independent image of its own accord, but rather having :) converted to an image when I just wanted the simple colon version. ^^ Thank you for helping me put that better into words! I will give Peter's script a try out! Thank you very much for providing a possible solution, Retread, and thank you for chipping in, Peter!

Due to the lack of uniform support across applications and platforms [1] there exists libraries such as Emoji One (pictured above) that are designed to iron out those discrepancies, what you see in your app may not be what someone else sees in another app, if they see anything at all. It is this Emoji One library that Proboards V6 now currently uses to ensure everyone sees the same thing. (gift emoji inserted as a emojione image by the V6 Froala Editor) 🎁 (gift emoji inserted as a character character entity [Google Chrome]) Edit: The emojione library does in fact support ascii aliases but does not appear to be exposed by the froala editor
