My neighbor downstairs is an elderly man that lives alone. I see him walking to the soup kitchen every day and always alone. So I thought I would do something nice and get him a Christmas gift. It was two boxes of chocolate and a card. I ran into him today and asked him if he liked the chocolate. He said he threw them out and I’m the devil.

While helping my niece with a fundraiser selling chocolate, I found out that there are quite a few older people who had issues with properly digesting chocolate in their older age, when they didn't have issues while growing up, and being parents themselves.

Oh wow, that was mean of him to say. For a Christmas gift for one of my neighbors who I adore not only because she's a medic but, also because she adopted a pup from China that was saved from the meat factory out there. Such a superbly beautiful pup but, also shy of humans as well, it breaks my heart to see her so afraid of humans so I bought her a giant peanut butter cookie from work. lol It's as big as her head which I thought would make an awesome gift not only because of the size but, because it's peanut butter, dogs love peanut butter. 💝 I haven't heard anything from her but, then I don't care either just as long as her pup is healthy and happy is good enough for me but, if I know her she most likely is grateful and when she has time from her hectic crazy work schedule I will probably get a ty from her the next time I see her at work.

Wow, what a nice thing for you to do and what an @rsehole he was. I understand the elderly can get curmudgeonly, but that was ridiculous. (BTW-I'm... ahem, elderly, and if you want to use your money for chocolates for someone who will appreciate them, you can send them to me *she said with a bright grin and a chocolate loving gleam in her eye*)

I use to work with an older man that was over 65. Good guy but you could obviously tell he was suffering from dementia or some sort of mental health concern. I went t ok visit my old work place not too long ago, apparently the guy got so bad apparently he threatened to kill someone over a $10 flashlight over saying he stole it. Now I know both these people well and knew him well enough that he wouldn't steal. So the store fired him without warning after the older man being there for 10 years. It's sad we get this way as we age some people just can't co troll or think right enough to think about what they say. So don't take it personally our mind just fades as we get older.

Let's see. Hmmm. I'm 67, definitely a curmudgeon, often get told to come to my senses, have my fair share of senior moments, and look a LOT like Walter, Jeff Dunham's puppet. I guess there's only one thing to say, and Eastwood said it best . . . .

Even if he didn't celebrate Christmas and had some chocolate allergy, it's not like the entire city is supposed to know that about him. For what it's worth, I think you made a very kind gesture. You didn't do anything wrong. You're a very loving and thoughtful person. If he thinks there's any evil in you, I don't even want to know how he reacts to actual crime and violence.

If I’m not mistaken, doesn’t your forum have to do with ouija boards or something to that effect? Is it possible that he’s aware of your activities? Perhaps he’s overheard you talking about it or you dress in a somewhat stereotypical fashion? It’s not uncommon for people of a certain age to be highly superstitious about religious/occult matters, especially if they’re socially isolated and left to their own biases. I’m just spitballing here, but maybe his reaction had nothing to do with the chocolate and was a result of his own unchallenged prejudices. That’s the most obvious link I can find for why he might call you the devil in general.
Or maybe he’s just a dick (he is, either way) and now you know why he’s always alone.

I don’t really dress out of the ordinary... I do know now why he’s alone now. I have been nothing but nice to him.

Your elderly neighbor gets his food from a soup kitchen. Perhaps he needs money for real food such as produce, hamburg and etc. I do not agree with him calling you the devil.

I don't think Alzheimer's or Dementia was this man's problem. There are people who just get nasty with age and there is usually nothing to do about it but to keep at being nice to them. (If you so choose to befriend them).

I’m not going to go out of my way to be mean but I will never try to do anything nice for him again.
