In Australia you can get your learners at 16 and your provisional at 17, I think it should remain as it is...

It's 17 here in the UK when you can get your provisional, but even if you learn really fast, you can't get a full license until you are 18.

I think it's good as it is, but aren't they going to raise it to 18?

In Ontario:
16 you can get what is called a G1. You must have a fully licensed driver with atleast 4 years experience with you at all times, have a zero blood alcohol level, not drive between 12am and 5am (I think those are the times) and stay off any road with a posted speed above 80km/h.
1 year later, or if you do driving school 8 months later, you can get a G2. This means you have full driving privilages except you must have a zero blood alchol level.
1 year later, you can get your G and thats a full license where you are allowed 0.08mg of alcohol in your body.

I'm in the UK, so it's 17 here. Back where I used to live on the Isle of Man (that's a tiny island in the middle of the UK) it was 16, which I think was better. Learn to drive a year sooner, you get an extra year of experience!
